What is Seven Deadly Sins?
The Seven Deadly Sins, also known as the Capital Vices or Cardinal Sins, are a classification of vices that have been used since early Christian times to educate and instruct followers concerning fallen humanity’s tendency to sin. The final listing of these deadly vices is Pride, Greed, Lust, Envy, Gluttony, Wrath and Sloth. Pride is considered the original and most serious of the seven deadly sins as it is believed to be the source of all other sinful behavior. It is represented by an excessive belief in one’s own abilities that interferes with the individual’s recognition of the grace of God. It has been described as excessive love of self. Pride can manifest itself in different ways such as arrogance or haughtiness. Greed is an excessive desire for material wealth or gain. Greed has been described as selfishness and lack of compassion for others, however it can also refer to an excessive need for power or control over others. In Christianity greed may be seen as a sin because it leads individuals away from their true purpose in life which should involve helping others rather than just focusing on personal desires and ambitions. Lust refers to an intense craving or desire often related to sexual pleasure but not limited to it alone lust can also refer to a strong desire for power or money. According to Christianity lust should be avoided as it represents uncontrolled passions which lead individuals away from spiritual fulfillment and towards unfulfilled desires and unhappiness. Envy involves wanting something that someone else possesses such as power or status while lacking appreciation for what they already have in life this vice often leads people into resentment towards others who have more than them which may eventually lead them down a path filled with bitterness and spitefulness towards those who don’t share their misfortune. Gluttony involves over-indulgence in food or drink often leading people into unhealthy habits such unhealthy eating patterns (overeating) which disrupt normal bodily functions such digestion and metabolism leading eventually into obesity related illnesses like diabetes heart disease etc.
