What is Radiation?
Radiation is energy that travels in the form of waves or particles. It is a natural occurrence, and it is all around us. Radiation can be found everywhere in our environment, from the sun, to cell phones and even from within our own bodies. Radiation has many uses, both beneficial and potentially harmful. In medicine, radiation can help diagnose illnesses such as cancer by providing images of tumors. It can also be used to treat cancer through radiation therapy, which destroys cancer cells with high doses of radiation while leaving healthy cells unharmed. In industry, radiation is used for welding components together and sterilizing medical equipment. However, although radiation has many useful applications it can also be hazardous when exposed to humans or the environment at high levels without proper protection or safety measures in place. Excessive exposure to radiation can cause severe health problems such as cancer and tissue damage as well as environmental contamination through radioactive contamination if not managed properly. To protect individuals and the environment from potential risks of excessive exposure to radiation it is important that people are aware of its potential hazards so they know how to properly handle it when necessary.
