What is Preposition?
A preposition is a word that connects two phrases, clauses, or sentences together. It expresses the relationship between the words it links and can indicate time, place, position, direction, or possession. Prepositions are used to form many idiomatic expressions in English which make spoken and written language more interesting. For example: The cat sat on the mat uses the preposition ‘on’ to show the relationship of where the cat was located.Prepositions vary from language to language but some examples of commonly used English prepositions are: about, above, across, after, against, along with around , at before , behind , below beneath beyond by despite down during for from in inside into throughout like near of off on opposite out over past since through till under until up upon with within without Using prepositions correctly is an important part of speaking and writing accurately in English as they help provide clarity and structure to our sentences. Different types of nouns (e.g., person/place/thing) require different kinds of prepositions when describing their relation to other objects in a sentence (e.g., Time/location/possession). Incorrect use may cause confusion so it’s important to be mindful when incorporating them into your speech or text-based communication.
