What is Lower Case Letters?
Lower case letters are the most commonly used form of writing in the English language. Lower case letters refer to any letter that is not capitalized, such as a, b, c and so on. The use of lower case letters makes it easier for readers to read and understand written words. The origins of lower case (also known as miniscules) can be traced back to the late Roman Empire when all Latin was written in majuscule (capital) lettering. It wasn’t until about 8th century AD that lower case developed through an evolution of Carolingian script. In this period scribes began using small strokes at varying angles on top and bottom lines of majuscule letterforms, creating what we now recognize as modern lowercase characters with ascenders and descenders. Today, these same basic shapes are still being used when people write by hand or type on keyboards the only difference is they look much different than their ancient counterparts due to slight variations made over time. Lowercase has become increasingly more popular among typographers since it takes up less space than uppercase text which allows for more efficient typesetting practices. Furthermore, studies have also found that reading comprehension improves when text is presented in a combination of upper-and-lowercase instead of only uppercase letters as well as people perceive lowercase texts as easier to read than all capitals texts due its familiarity from everyday useage. In short, lower case letters are essential component in written communication and have been adopted across many languages throughout history thanks to its accessibility and ease-of-use for both writers and readers alike.
