What is Computer Networks?
Computer networks are essential components of modern life, allowing us to communicate, access information and resources, and collaborate with other people around the world. Computer networks consist of hardware and software components that allow two or more computers to communicate with each other.Networks can be divided into two main categories: local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs). Local area networks are typically used within a single building or campus to connect multiple computers in a relatively small geographic space. These types of networks are commonly used in homes, businesses, schools, hospitals and other organizations. Wide area networks span large distances such as cities or countries, often using multiple forms of transmission media such as telephone lines or satellite systems.Network hardware includes devices such as network adapters which allow computers to be connected directly to the network via cables or wirelessly; routers which direct data traffic between devices; switches which facilitate communication between different parts of the network; firewalls which block unwanted traffic from entering the network; and gateways which enable communication between different types of computer systems. Network software includes operating systems which manage how computers on the network interact with each other; protocols which define how data is formatted for transmission over a network; security measures such as encryption algorithms to protect data being transmitted over a network; applications such as email clients that allow users to communicate between one another over a network; and web browsers that allow users to access websites on the Internet. Computer networks have revolutionized modern life by making it easier for people around the world to stay connected at all times. They have enabled businesses to increase efficiency through increased collaboration across departments, facilitated distance learning opportunities for students worldwide, enabled more efficient healthcare services through sharing medical records electronically among doctors in various locations, improved entertainment services by enabling streaming video services in real time from any device connected to the internet, allowed governments around the world greater access information about their citizens quickly and efficiently, enabled online shopping giving consumers more choices than ever before ,and much more.
