What is Aids?

AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) is a life-threatening condition caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). HIV attacks and destroys certain components of the immune system, making it difficult for the body to fight off infection and disease. AIDS is considered the most advanced stage of an HIV infection, when an individual’s CD4 count drops below 200 cells/mm³.The cause of AIDS is believed to be from contact with bodily fluids from someone who has HIV or has already developed AIDS. This can include unprotected sex, sharing needles during drug use, receiving infected blood transfusions, or being born to a mother with HIV. Once contracted, there is no known cure for AIDS but treatment options are available that may help reduce symptoms and prolong life expectancy. These treatments include antiretroviral medications which work to slow down the progression of HIV in the body as well as therapies that strengthen immune systems such as exercise and healthy eating habits; these approaches can also help reduce transmission rates among those living with HIV/AIDS.In recent years there have been great strides taken towards raising awareness about AIDS and reducing its spread through education on safe sexual practices such as using condoms every time you have intercourse or abstaining from risky behaviors like intravenous drug use which increase your risk for contracting both STI’s and HIV/AIDS. There are also resources available through organizations like Planned Parenthood which provide free testing services so people know their status earlier rather than later this gives them more time to access proper care if necessary before developing further complications associated with late-stage infections. It is important that everyone understand how they can protect themselves against getting infected in order to prevent future cases from occurring at all costs.
