definition= any policy which is passed by goverment and impacts on peoples lives.

individual studies/reasurch and or sociological theories of society.

social democrats= the policy was tax the rich and give universal benefits to the poor. based on the beverage report. new right= regressive taxation, cultural benefits, selective benefits mainstream and privatisation.

social democrates= tripartite system marketisation= comprehensives and marketisation of schools creating greater choice and competition between schools.

sociology has influenced social policy in welfare and education and has created a whole new system.

should sociology influence social policy ?

sociological reasurch has four key functions. 1)provides an understanding of the world 2)hightens awareness + needs of certain groups 3)provides an assesment of the impact of social policy 4)increase personal knowledge of owerselves and others.

this can be used to argue sociology should supporta and advise social policy.

-a sociologist professor and critic of thatchers welfare reform. -1997 he was elected into tony blairs cabinate and welfare reforms -1998 he resigned as he was unable to acchive his aims. =this highlights the difficculty in combinding sociology with social policy as sociology is based on unlimited resources while goverment has only limited resources.

- they hate the idea of supporting social policy as they see its as giving fales credability to goverment which they would rather destroy.

they support sociology influencing social policy as it can gradualy change the system into a fair system and they seen the influence as a positive one.

some see sociology main puropus as influencing social policy and supporting society through goverment whilst otheres want to revolutionise and destroy goverment.
