Chapter 19 is a very important moment in the story because Eppie and Silas where talking about how sad their life would be if the relationship between them broke as they were talking about this Godfrey and Nancy turn up at Silas's cottage and try to adopt Eppie but Eppie shows that she wants to be with Silas because she stands by Silas and stands opposite Godfrey and Nancy.

This is a very big key decision for Eppie. Before Godrey and Nancy turn up Silas is happy because he has got Eppie. You can tell this because he says "If you hadn't been sent to save me I should ha' gone to my grave in my misery. Money was taken away from me in time; and you see it been kept - - kept till it was want

ed for you."But when Godrey and Nancy turn up his mood changes because Godrey and Nancy try to ruin Silas's and Eppie's relationship. He is Angry ; Sad because he thinks that he will lose everything if Eppie goes to live with Godfrey and Nancy.

He feels love because he thinks that if Eppie goes to live Godrey and Nancy she will have better education and a good job and money for when she needs it and he shows this when he goes " Eppie my child speak I won't stand in your way. Silas and she doesn't want to lose him. She says this in polite manner "Thank you, ma'am- - thank you, sir.

But I can't leave my father, nor own anybody nearer than him. And I don't want to be a lady - -thank you all the same" (Eppie drops a curtsy) this shows how much she loves and cares for Silas and that she wants to be with him even though Godrey is her real father. She also feels angry because Godfrey and Nancy are trying to take her away from Silas.Nancy feels that it is her duty to look after Eppie because Eppie is Godfrey's real daughter and that if she doesn't agree to try to adopt Eppie she thinks that she will lose Godfrey and she doesn't want to lose him.

She tries her hardest to adopt Eppie just to make Godfrey happy, but it doesn't work. Nancy can't have children so when Eppie turns down Godfrey and Nancy's -invitation she gets very agitated and angry. You can tell this because she says " What you say is natural, my dear child - - it's natural you should cling to those who've brought you up, but there's a duty you owe to you lawful father."Godfrey feels that now he knows that he and Nancy can not have children then he has to try to get Eppie to make Nancy happy but when Eppie turns down his offer he is very unhappy and angry.Personally I think that this is a good story and that Eppie made the right decision by staying with Silas but I think that she would have had a better life

and education if Eppie went to live with Godfrey and Nancy.
