Independence refers to the liberation of a person or entity, as witnessed when Malaysia emancipated itself from the United Kingdom. Independence Day is an annual celebration that symbolizes a nation's freedom. Malaysia's independence is noteworthy for its nonviolent approach. Rather than resorting to armed confrontation, they sought peaceful negotiations with the British. Hence, on August 31, 1957, Malaysia's first prime minister, Allahyarham Tunku Abdul Rahman, proudly declared Malaya's independence by repeating the word "Merdeka" seven times at Merdeka Stadium.

In 1956, Malaysia's Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj and a delegation traveled to London to discuss independence for Malaya with the British Government. During both occasions, the Tunku's enthusiastic cries of Merdeka! were joyfully repeated by the numerous Malaysians present, as well as the millions who watched the events unfold through various media outlets. This marked Malaya's official liberation from their former colonial rulers and its establishment as the Federation of Malaya. Subsequently, in 1963, the name was changed to the Federation of Malaysia.

Malaysia has made considerable advancements over time. Currently, the Merdeka Stadium also serves as a venue for sporting events or concerts. Nevertheless, the significance of independence should not be underestimated as its loss would lead to profound humiliation and enduring discrimination.

Protecting our country and fostering love and pride towards it should always be our priority. If given the chance to select a country to reside in 25 years from now, with the assistance of a fairy godmother who possesses magical items like a crystal ball and world atlas, Malaysia would be my immediate choice. My rationale for this decision is simple: I have strong faith that Malaysia will transform into one of the most appealing places to call "home" in the next 25 years.
