Life changing experiences happen for a reason; some for the good and some for the bad. After reading the Reggie Clemons’ case, it was obvious that his case was laced with unjustifiable errors that highlight the fallacies of our justice system.

Throughout this paper I will discuss the Clemons case and salient points that swayed my opinion. Reggie Clemons is now a 40 year-old African-American man who was sentenced to death after he was tried in an unfair trial in Missouri. In 1991, Clemons, on the Rocks Bridge by the Mississippi River, was convicted of the murder of two white women. The night of the murder Clemons was hanging with a group of three teenagers.

nd his two cousins, part of the other group of teenagers, exchanged words with then departed into opposite directions on the Bridge. The prosecutors never believed that Reggie had pushed the two women or had he planned the crime, but they do believe that he was an accomplice. There was no real evidence linking Reggie to the crime, so there should have been no reason that Reggie received the death penalty.

The police did charge Thomas Cummins for the murder of his two cousins, but they later dropped the charges and went after the three black teenagers. In my personal opinion, this is one of the main why reasons why I believe this case are racially motivated.

The first person that was called for the crime was Thomas Cummins, and he told his side of the story to the police officers.

He told the police that he and the Kerry sisters had went to the Rocks Bridge to look at graffiti on a wall. Later they ran into Clemons and his group of friends and chatted for a while; they subsequently departed their separate ways. Later the group of teens came back and robbed and raped the two teens and pushed.
