Reasoning of My Personal Professional Goals Essay Example
The choices that people make when selecting what career they will take is influenced by different situation. When choosing a career one should be very careful that the profession chosen should go hand in hand with the person’s immediate and future professional goals. Being forced to a career or taking a career that is not compatible with one’s professional goals renders the person in question not to deliver the required services that are supposed to be delivered by a person of that occupation. To address the issue of my career choice as an occupational therapist, I will at first address the reasons that drew me to the calling. Later on, I will address my lifetime goals that are related to my walk of life.
After my brother was involved in a motorcycle accident, I spent a lot of time
...with him at the rehabilitation process which was meant to assist him to regain his state of physical health. The process (occupational therapy)involved performing of daily life activities and was administered not only to my brother but to other people who had a similar problem like my brother. I was so touched by the services being offered at this facility that I decided that one day I will help people who are subjected to similar life situation as my sibling. To achieve this goal, I had to choose an occupation that would put me in a position that will help me serve the people. By taking, a degree in occupational therapy, the necessary skills that a person needs to handle patients will be acquired.
Together with enhancing the achievements of my professional life goals. It is well note
that Occupational therapy course integrates many disciplines, for example, clinical practices, product design and testing and much more which are beneficial to the person taking this course. In conjunction with integrating many disciplines, occupational therapy addresses people actual human wants. It is thus true that through the study of this course, one is able to transform people’s life by making it better. For example, an occupational therapist will work with prisoners and elderly people especially those with obesity. Thus taking a degree will give me a chance of serving the people. Another benefit associated with occupational therapy course is that through it, skill can be used to lead and manage services.
The first step towards fulfillment of my goals was to study the occupational therapy course. The will enable me to acquire the skill needed for the job. It should, however, be noted that for one to be an occupational therapist, he or she must possess the aspects of mercy, caring and value for human life which are not taught at school. My personal life (taking care of my brother after his accident) played a big role in ensuring that I gained the personal traits mentioned. Support from my family will also help me in achieving my goals. It should be noted here that my chief professional goal is being in a position to serve people and help them regain their good health. After completing my course, I joined Miami VA hospital where I gained the professional experience needed in my line of duty. At the hospital, I gained the skills of working with patients and learned that for me to be able to work with
patients in needed to have patience, courage and be flexible to changes.
