Parental Virtue: a New Way of Thinking about the Morality Essay Example
In my personal view, this article clearly expresses how parental virtue plays a big role in the determination of the behavior and character traits of their children. The article presents the controversial concept that the main purpose of parenthood is giving birth to flourishing children. In my view, this concept is obsolete and outdated since the critical process of human making is entirely out of the control of humanity. Good virtues in parenting only impacts on the character of the children after their birth since this is the time the nature of parenting directly acts upon the child. Therefore, at this stage of live is when the morality of parents affects the growth to maturity of the children. This in my opinion, I can hold that, the environmental exposure of the child is a key determiner of the child’
...s life.
The reproduction entire beyond human control and thus the application of reproductive ethics in relation to parental ethics is totally unacceptable. I have reached this opinion since, if the reproduction process would have been entirely under the control of human beings, then no cases of children born with disabilities as no one would accept bearing such a child. No virtuous parent would wish to accept having a deaf child as this will remain burden to the parent and also the child will be suffering. It will as be against the rights of the child to enjoy life to the fullest just like any other normally human being. This completely out of human control since even disabled parents gives birth to good child with no physical or mental disabilities.
If parenting was entirely with ones control, then i
my case I would prefer to have the most success children who are morally upright and depicting the right human characteristics. On this basis, I wonder why moral virtuous parents still bears children who have character traits which are totally different from their parents. In connection to this article, I stand out clear to the position that God balances the world through reproduction ethics. This argument is based on the observation that most of the poor parents bear most of the good children both morally and also in terms of other characteristics like academic excellence. Most of the affluent parents have bear children who in most cases are problematic and this makes the parents to keep straining in order to maintain their dignity through handling the children. It is also clear that they do not demand for the morally shortened children but they only found them at their midst. Therefore, I strongly stand to the fact that virtuous parenting and reproduction ethics do not necessarily lead to bearing of the right children but this is only due to the mercies of God.
The right to flourishing children is only in founded in the mercies of God and that it is not the fundamental purpose of parenthood and hence parents should not always be aimed towards this end. Every parent has right to have good children regardless of whether one is poor, rich or disabled. The issue of genetic makeup plays no role to the determination of the child bearing as far as reproduction is concerned, what is important to be noted by all the parents is that virtuous parents are only those who normally exercises their
pre-defined parental virtues. Human beings should develop a code of conduct which calls for great family ties, neighborhood relationships as well as friendships with an aim of exercising fairness, obedience and also kindness.
