Since I was little, I have been attracted to the dignified career of teaching and towards that I am directing my future. My experience as a student during all these years has determined my own educational philosophy, which I will use once I begin to work as an educator. It is a reality that the world is constantly changing. We and all that concerns us are affected directly because of these changes since we are all part of it. One of the most relevant aspects as human beings is our education. For this reason, it must go hand in hand with the transitions that occur in our society. In this way, my philosophy focuses on the consideration of a changing society and how education should be adapted to it. The needs of human beings in the same way become increasingly different as time passes. Therefore, it i
...s necessary that education also responds to these recurrent needs and adapts to the interests of the student body. In this way, my educational philosophy is based on the model of progressivism. In progressivism education is always in the process of development. Educators must be prepared to make changes in their teaching methods in accordance with new knowledge, changes in the environment and the needs and interests that arise from these changes.
My philosophical vision detaches itself from this rigorous study of books and data memorization that can be overwhelming. With this method, a significant part of knowledge is forgotten if it is not put into practice. That is why teaching according to my philosophy is much more bearable and relevant according to the need and interest of the student.
My
educational philosophy also believes in cooperative work among students. This can occur in a classroom meeting or in the middle of the practical activity. In this way the acquisition of knowledge is more dynamic and each student feeds on the other.
The curriculum must then be in accordance with the demands of an evolutionary society. The classes to be offered are going to be those relevant to the progress and events of the moment. In this way it will be possible to fulfill the objective of the student being able to solve life's problems. Therefore, the curriculum will be one that is useful than this purpose. This means that the curriculum will not always be the same and is subject to changes in society.
The classes will be focused on offering the most relevant theoretical aspects and for a better use the essential is the application of the acquired knowledge. This will make the student learn from their own investigations, actions and discoveries. This means that the student is a main part in the learning process so that a large part of the curriculum will be adapted to meet the needs of these, needs that arise as society changes. This means that society will decide what will be taught.
As a teacher I will also make what I teach respond to the needs and interests of my students. I will make sure they are prepared with all the necessary knowledge so that I can put it into practice and I will avoid going to a higher level of complexity without having the assurance that my students are ready. In the same way I will support and encourage my
students to perform in the best possible way and even more I will be able to understand, I will be open and I will be available to help when the student presents any need in the academic aspect.
Now taking into consideration the aspect of the evaluation, I do not believe that an examination proves the knowledge in its entirety. It is for this reason that this will not be the only means to evaluate the progress of my students. For me it is much more important their performance in the application part of the acquired knowledge than a deposition of things memorized in an exam. So, the evaluation will be rather that which promote critical thinking when solving real-life practical problems. However, the use of short tests will also be a means where the student demonstrates whether or not the theoretical knowledge that is offered dominates. The evaluation process will be one where the student will demonstrate their strengths and weaknesses.
In conclusion, my educational philosophy is one that takes into account the transitions that occur in our society. Due to these transitions, the student's needs become different over the years. For this reason, we must provide an education that revolves around the interest of the student and whose curriculum is adapted to the change. The education then must be dynamic and allow the active participation of the student. This is achieved by allowing him to be creative and learn by himself from his own results. In this way the student will be able to solve problems in the environment where we live.
Based on the observation I made during this semester I can reinforce my philosophy
in some areas. First, it is clear that an education based on the interests of the student will provide the necessary motivation for effective learning. This I could observe in the fact that the students in my observation school have the option of choosing their own study program, taking the courses that they think are relevant for their future interests, making their teaching-learning process a more enjoyable one. These are similarly involved in research and other activities where they have the opportunity to apply their knowledge in real life situations. In this way, the necessary stimuli are provided for them to learn. One of the students' focuses is active learning, where they have a direct participation in their learning process. In the same way and based on what I observed, it is evident how cooperative work positively influences student learning. I understand that my educational philosophy has certain points that could be implemented in the classroom thus achieving significant learning.
