It was necessary to wake up early in the dark and damp morning to reach the airport by 4:30 am. Fortunately, preparation was easy since we had packed our luggage the day before. Despite hearing my mother's alarm go off during the night, I spent most of my time on bed imagining all the enjoyable moments we would have.

When I was ten years old, I enjoyed swimming in the sea and exploring new places and cities. However, my first airplane ride was the most adventurous experience for me as it meant travelling abroad for the first time. While my siblings had gone skiing with their school in year ten and eleven, I was excited to bask in Majorca's sunshine and relax on its golden beaches, which would be a welcome escape from the chilly weather in Wales. One morning my mother w

oke us all up with her joyous shout of "Time to get up everyone!" I jumped out of bed like a cheetah and hurriedly headed to the bathroom for a wash.

Surprisingly, my brother was fully prepared first - an uncommon occurrence for him. In contrast, my sister was feeling somewhat nervous and went through her bags multiple times to ensure she had everything she needed. Meanwhile, our mother was downstairs making breakfast for us as we all got ready. We were aware that a lengthy day of travel and other activities awaited us.

The excitement and joy of the upcoming holiday was palpable, with my mother even singing a tune about the destination: "Oh, we're going to Majorca... back to the island."

At half past three, we were prepared and waiting. We had booked a taxi

for quarter to four and a silver minibus honked outside our house. The taxi driver was obliging and assisted us in loading our five suitcases into the back of the bus. As I stepped into the taxi, I realized that my adventure had begun.

Arriving at Manchester Airport, we checked in on time despite our flight not being until 6am. As we approached the airport in a taxi, I couldn't help but notice how vast the city was with its own train system and numerous coaches filled with holiday-goers.

During a taxi ride to the airport, Mum communicated to the driver that she needed terminal two for her international flight. The driver assured her it would not be a problem. Upon arriving at the terminal, their suitcases were placed on a trolley to make transportation easier. The initial step was checking in at the airport and then their luggage was taken to be loaded onto the plane. Mum thought it was the largest place she had ever been.

With just under two hours until departure, my brother and sister gave me a brief tour of the vast terminal while our mother did some shopping. The terminal was impressive, featuring numerous soft seats and carpeted flooring throughout. However, there was a giant treadmill along one corridor that aided travelers in moving around the terminal. I can vividly recall the lounging area where people were resting and reading books as we watched planes landing and taking off.

Despite the darkness, we could observe the aircraft lights and jumbo jets stationed for passenger boarding. Following that, we returned to meet mum around 5:30 a.m. As we made our way back, my

siblings and I availed ourselves of the convenient treadmill. "Did you watch the planes take off?" Mum inquired. "It was fantastic!" I exclaimed. "We even got to ride on the treadmills that spare you from walking a long distance." Mum responded happily, "Excellent! Now, let's go board our plane. Does everyone have their carry-on luggage?"

We all expressed our agreement as we were on our mother's passport and didn't have to wait long to board the plane. To guarantee safety, we underwent a metal detector check and had our luggage scanned before boarding. Upon completion of these formalities, I felt thrilled as we walked through a chilly and narrow tunnel that resembled the entrance used by athletes after changing rooms.

Upon boarding the plane, a female attendant guided me to my assigned seat. The inside of the aircraft had a pleasant and inviting ambiance, with an open layout consisting of three rows on each side (center, right, and left) and ample lighting. I settled into my window seat on the right-hand side.

During my first flight, my brother kindly gave up his seat next to the window. Unfortunately, the windows were too small for me to see anything other than the airport terminal. Once we closed the doors and prepared for takeoff, we were greeted by a friendly captain over the loudspeaker as we accelerated into high speed and altitude.

As we slowly made our way onto the runway, I recall the growling sound of the engines. Once the flashing seatbelt sign lit up, I fastened my seatbelt and listened to the clicking of others doing the same. On board were a variety of people, from business travelers to

elderly individuals and young ones as well. Even Spanish tourists who had likely just finished their vacation in England were present. The plane turned before speeding down the runway and lifting off nose-first at a 45-degree angle, which felt both fascinating and oddly amusing. Prior to takeoff, my mother suggested sucking on a 'Werthers Original' candy to avoid discomfort or popping in my ears. We maintained that angle for some time before reaching cruising altitude and leveling out. Within minutes we soared high into the sky, allowing us to move around freely, use restrooms or wash up without restriction.

The airplane was designed to provide maximum comfort to its passengers with its soft, reclining seats and lively carpeted floors. In addition, each seat featured a small television screen with channel-changing buttons, which I found very impressive. The audio could be enjoyed via earphones or the alternative option was listening to the radio. As time passed, a steward made their way down the aisle with a trolley, offering breakfast and beverages.

The stewards and stewardesses were courteous and amiable, readily available by pushing a button and waiting for the light to come on. They were always eager to assist.
