Steamboat Willie is attributed as being the very first cartoon with sound. Although today, this may not be remarkable as much, it was a bold step for Walt Disney. Today, this cartoon is considered as a masterpiece creation and a timeless classic. A fear in encountered during the production of this cartoon is how sound would be employed as it can make or break the film. However, Disney’s creation that utilized the bizarre and silly sounds for the various characters proved to be a success. The dialogue in the film is minimized as synchronizing the sound and picture was very tasking and difficult back then.

The synchronization of sound and picture can be seen during this sequence as Mickey’s actions goes with the music’s beat. The steamship captain, Pete was very mad and Mickey was ordered to peel potatoes by Pete’s parrot. The film ended with Mickey laughing and throwing the potato at the parrot.
