The digestive system is a complex network of organs and glands that work together to break down food into nutrients, which the body uses for energy, growth and cell repair. The mouth is the first part of the digestive system, where food enters and begins its journey through the body. From there, food passes through the esophagus to reach the stomach where it gets broken down by powerful acids and enzymes. After leaving the stomach, partially digested food moves into the small intestine where most of digestion takes place. Here enzymes from both pancreatic juices and bile produced in liver break down proteins, carbohydrates, fats and nucleic acids (DNA/RNA) so they can be absorbed into our bloodstreams for use throughout our bodies. Finally waste products are passed on to large intestine before being excreted from anus as feces. The process of digestion involves several other organs including salivary glands in mouth that produce saliva; gallbladder which stores bile produced by liver; pancreas which produces hormones like insulin; liver which produces bile; appendix at end of small intestine as well as lymphatic vessels that transport white blood cells throughout body aiding immune system fight off infection or disease. Nevertheless, dietary choices and lifestyle factors can impede its efficacy. The […]
Animals require nutrients present in food to sustain life and promote growth. Macronutrients and micronutrients are both obtained from the environment and play important roles in an organism’s metabolic system. Macronutrients provide essential energy for metabolism, while micronutrients support bodily processes, tissue growth, and repair. Animals have a specialized digestive system that breaks down macronutrients […]
