During Marcos' presidency, numerous laws were implemented, but the most impactful law for citizens was Martial law. This law imposed curfews and enforced military law and justice upon the population. Martial law remained in effect in the Philippines from September 21, 1972, until January 17, 1981. Consequently, this led to a division among the people with some supporting its implementation while others opposed it.
Some individuals backed Ferdinand Marcos, while others favored Corazon Aquino. Personally, I hold the belief that Martial law's implementation was warranted. Despite not having been alive during that period, I perceive it as beneficial for the Philippines. Martial law acted as a tool to quell uprisings and reinstate order in the nation. Although complete peace wasn't accomplished, progress was evident in the Philippines. It can even be argued that Martial law
...played a vital role in averting the country's ultimate downfall. Nonetheless, I concur with the critique regarding Marcos' abuse of power during his tenure.
Previously, I learned that Marcos implemented Martial law to prolong his presidency in the Philippines. He had the longest tenure as president from 1965 to 1986. The thought of whether the Philippines should experience military rule again has been occupying my thoughts. In my viewpoint, it is not advisable for the Philippines to go through military rule once more. Why? Because this generation is already familiar with living in a democratic society.
According to my point of view, reintroducing Martial law would hinder our advancements in creating a more improved society. While we are presently acknowledged as Asia's upcoming powerhouse, we do encounter economic difficulties rather than political ones. Despite th
existence of politicians who exploit their authority, it is unnecessary to bring back Martial law since there are currently no revolts and individuals are concentrated on their individual enterprises.
Some individuals do not care about politics and their indifference leads me to believe that Martial law aids in making a stronger nation. However, in our current era, I believe that it is unnecessary to impose Martial law once more. There are numerous reasons for this stance; firstly, we live in an age where democracy is apparent. Secondly, we are already familiar with liberalism and understand our capabilities and influence. Therefore, as citizens of the Philippines, we should not endure another period of military rule.
