Assess the impact of key influences on the personal learning process on own learning Essay Example
M1: I will analyze the effects of different influences on my personal learning process. Although several factors have influenced my learning, specific ones have had a more significant impact. The subsequent list provides an outline of these factors:
- Learning Style
- Motivation
- Attitude and Self Discipline
- Aspirations
- Previous educational experience
Understanding my preferred learning style is crucial for optimizing my personal learning experience. According to Honey and Mumford, it is important for every learner to identify their own learning style and actively seek out opportunities to learn using that specific style. In my case, I am a 'Theorist' who prefers understanding the theory behind actions. I am not satis
...fied with mere facts; instead, I strive to comprehend the underlying reasons behind things and arrive at logical conclusions. Motivation plays a significant role in my learning process.
I have always struggled to find motivation because I am not naturally self-motivated. However, I have discovered a solution that aligns with my preferred learning style and helps me feel comfortable and productive. The VARK acronym represents different sensory modalities for absorbing information: Visual, Aural, Read/write, and Kinaesthetic. Once I identified my preferred style, I realized that auditory methods work best for me. Listening to lectures, participating in group discussions, and using auditory tools like mobile phones, speaking aloud, web-chatting, and talking things through all help me excel. Additionally, listening to music while studying independently greatly enhances my motivation.
Although I struggle with maintaining a positive outlook on my learning
I recognize the significance of having a positive attitude. It helps me stay motivated and accomplish tasks efficiently. Self-discipline plays a vital role in my learning journey as it allows me to manage my emotions and overcome weaknesses. The emotional intelligence theory emphasizes the value of self-awareness, including comprehending goals, intentions, responses, and behavior while also managing emotions. This theory aligns with how my attitude towards various aspects of life is influenced by emotions.
As I grew up, my aspirations changed significantly. Recently, I decided to pursue a career in the Health and Social Care field. The theory of behaviourism, also known as behavioural psychology, suggests that all behaviors are acquired through conditioning by interacting with the environment. According to behaviorists, our responses to environmental stimuli shape our behaviors. Personally, I believe this theory applies to my own experiences as my aspirations and behaviors have been influenced by the environments I have exposed myself to. For example, attending college for a year helped me realize my potential and cultivated a self-motivated attitude towards pursuing a different aspiration.
Cognitive psychology is centered around the examination of mental processes, such as thinking, perceiving, remembering, and learning. It can be argued that my personal cognitive development and acquisition of knowledge have greatly advanced as a result of previous educational experiences. Before enrolling in my current college course, I spent a year at another institution studying a program focused on science. This particular experience has notably enhanced my capacity for thinking and perceiving within my present course.
