There are other reasons why we are made to feel strong dislike towards Mrs Preedy. She makes Ben terribly frightened of her. Before and when she is around him he gets scared of her rowdy behaviour. Ben is glad to ‘escape her bitter tongue’. We know Ben genuinely wants to be friends with Daisy but cant because of his mother, Mrs Preedy, doesn’t like the colour of her skin. Ben and Daisy’s harmless fun by building a harbour is disturbed when Mrs Preedy catches Ben with Daisy.

Ben is very loyal to Daisy as he defends her, ‘Daisy’s a nice girl, she’s pretty! ’ However, Mrs Preedy was not re-considering her feelings towards Daisy. The short story ‘A Warm Golden Brown’ by Alexander Reid, shows through characterisation and structure, that the character Mrs Preedy is an unlikeable character. Her racially prejudiced attitude and the way she treats Ben and Daisy are only a few reasons why Mrs Preedy’s character and personality come across as very horrible. In conclusion I feel that Mrs Preedy is a rude, socially and racially prejudiced woman.
