question
Name two advantages the British had in the war and two that the Continental Army had. In your opinion, why were the Americans able to win the war?
answer
- First off the British Army had the support of the Royal Navy. They also had the manpower edge, and more money to wage the war. Also they had a proffesional military which was one of the finest in the world. - The Continentals were fighting on their home field. That made logistics way easier. They also knew for a fact they could not give up, as there actions were treason against the crown. As such they had more desire to win. Finally England had several enemies who came to the Colonial's aid, namely France.

They were open to a compromise with the British government that would avoid an all out war - which they were by no means convinced they could win in 1775.

answer

question
How were the Intolerable Acts different from the earlier Stamp Act and the Townshend Acts? What response did these actions provoke from the colonists and why?
answer
The Intolerable Act limited the political and geographical freedom of the colonists. It was basically a punishment from the British to the colonist over the Boston Tea Party. The Stamp Act and Townshend Act was a tax on goods. The Stamp Act was a law that all written documents such as books, marriage licenses, letters, birth certificates, etc should ALWAYS have a stamp on it. The Townshend Act put tax on paper, sugar, molasses, tea, etc.
question
The Continental Army suffered serious setbacks at the beginning of the Revolutionary War. How were the Americans able to turn things around and defeat the British?
answer
Even though the Continental Army was losing battles, they were still wearing down British forces who were a LONG way from home. But the real turning point was two things. The Americans found some huge success on the Southern front thanks to Gen. Nathaniel Green and subordinates like Daniel Morgan, who invented and implemented guerilla tactics that drove the British crazy. And secondly, the French entered the war on the American side, which gave the Americans a counter to British sea power, plus the French attacked British ports worldwide, making the rebellion into something of a world war. This kept the British from concentrating forces on America alone.
