Perception of “others” reflected attending Miss Columbia’s School House
The document provides a preview of a Hawaii with a British flag and Miss Canada both who are outside the gate. In the photo, Miss Columbia is holding a pickaninny being prodded by a weapon-wielding pupil. This therefore brings out the perceptions of others as being the school where everybody is quarrelling and acting in a mischievous manner. There is also a general feeling that a country being governed by another is an uncivilized nation.
On the other hand, Aguinaldo’s criticism of America’s policies towards the Philippines echo the 1894 political cartoon due to the fact that at one given time, persons from Spain who were removed from the once the Philippines ended up facing another conflict. The Spanish people and the Americans war ended up lighting a Gueri
lla war with the Philippines and the aim was to remove Spanish control from Cuba. Since the Spanish had control of the Puerto Rico and Guam which was the same situation in the Philippines previously. In Document 2, Aguinaldo mentions how the Americans believed that only the savages had residence in the Philippines. Furthermore, it is important to understand that they were never part of the Spanish and the 20 million transactions between the Americans and the Spanish was not valid (Filipino, 1899).
The policies imposed by the Americans were unacceptable since they would lead to uncertainty. Both Document 1 and Document 2 seem to suggest that persons that are defeated may never qualify for an American citizenship and that it suggests that they must be taught some discipline so that they can fit into the American standards. Aguinaldo therefore makes
it clear that since his people managed to make it through the Spanish rule, there is no necessity of a foreign rule for them to survive. He also states that as much as the Spanish managed to defeat the Philippines, they did not however manage to conquer a large part of it.
Modern civil rights and the goals of the United States
The government of the United States has a responsibility to ensure that the rule of law is observed and the judicial decisions are respected at all times. Therefore, Eisenhower had a feeling that it was right to enroll the African American students and that the regular police units could not manage to handle the situation hence provided the need to deploy National Guard troops to help handle the situation by staying at Central high and enforce order. Initially, Eisenhower assumed that Faubus had agreed to enroll the students of the African American race and thus Eisenhower thought it best for the National Guard troops could stay at Central High and enforce order (Filipino, 1899).
However, after a few days, nine African American students were enrolled and this led to chaos, which ran out of control, and little could be done to restore order. This therefore led to the deployment of the National Guard troops. America was on focus by many nations that wanted to see how the situation could be handled. United States enemies make use of the incidences to portray America as a nation that violated the same rights that it advocates for (May et.al, 1983).
The Native Americans had an ambition to improve their lives and thus came up with a plan to facilitate various
activities to ensure fundamental objectives were achieved to enhance the same. One reason that led to the radicalization of the civil rights movements is the feeling of being isolated and the lack of access to quality services that include basic commodities such as fresh water and the sanitation facilities. Other reasons include the lack of rights to access or benefit from the natural resources in the country. Industries were rare hence leading to the increase in the unemployment rate with less productive land for any useful activities.
Having a positive view of American history
The positive aspect in the American history is depicted in the means through which the nation has managed to establish itself and the passion to remain great. Various unique ideas and principles helped America to achieve positive publicity. The nation is also comprised of God fearing people who are dedicated to a better country.
The democracy evolution in America was one of the greatest triumphs of the founders of the American nation. This process ensured that there exists better leadership in the country and facilitated better provision of services to the people. This makes many positives from the American citizens who are always pleased to keep America great by maintaining the good aspects depicted in the country (Obama, 2008).
As much as the success in America makes many people proud to be associated with them, it also attracts some elements of opposition since many persons resolve to the modern-day secularism thereby leading to the disregard of the solid foundation on which the modern civilization is built upon. It is not always that the value system of the critics will be negative; it may be having
a positive intention to the greater prosperity of America. it is important to pick great ideas from the alternatives provided and build on them to ensure that there is even a greater prosperity to be realized. Various development plans have been realized through the enhancement of new ideas such as the health care plan that establishes various clinics aimed to better services to all clients.
These ideas should however not be misused thereby leading to many negative aspects of projects aimed to create good of the facilities. For instance, drug prescriptions should be made accurately with everal considerations in place to prevent misuse. Despite many sad moments existing in the American past, it is necessary for observers to hold positive views of the history since it has been a foundation of hope through which most of the current success is built on. The freedom implicated in the American history is not only beneficial to America but also to much of the greater nations around the world.
The influence of America’s past to the current society
The history of America continues to be a great influence to the current American society. The achievements realized in the past generation are too significant to be overlooked by the current generation of people. The American’s value their prosperity and their past helps them to gain important lessons that will enable them make appropriate improvements on the past achievements so as to remain great. Solutions that were implemented in the past and worked would help solve problems on current similar situations to enhance better success.
