Beauty has always been a source of pleasure and inspiration for people throughout history. Its ability to satisfy individuals and appeal to the eye is undeniable. Humans have a deep appreciation for beauty, as evidenced by the amount of time they spend admiring beautiful things. People are willing to pay a premium to experience its splendor, whether it's traveling to luxurious beaches or attending operas or concerts for the pure pleasure of listening to a beautiful voice.

As per wikipedia. com, beauty pertains to a quality possessed by a person or thing that creates joy and fulfillment in the observer, be it due to their outer appearance or internal attributes. Despite the widely held belief that there are no rigid criteria for beauty, ethics and faith often emphasize the uniqueness and divine nature of natural beauty as an expression of sanctity and clarity (wikipedia. com). According to wikipedia.com, beauty is not limited to objects, but can also refer to individuals. Throughout the years, individuals were deemed beautiful when they possessed a blend of inner and outer beauty. Despite this, combining inner and external beauty has always been a challenging feat throughout history.

As stated on wikipedia.com, the generally accepted standard for human attractiveness asserts that a person is beautiful in both their physical appearance and character. This ideal is often sought after by individuals, with inner beauty being regarded as more valuable than external beauty despite not being visible.

Opinions differ regarding the importance of inner beauty versus external beauty. Vinnie considers inner beauty to encompass qualities such as smiles, happiness, satisfaction, positivity an

control over anger. Conversely, some hold that one's outward appearance reflects their personality. Nevertheless, it should be noted that appearances can be misleading; society often associates good looks with internal beauty but this is not always accurate.

Wikipedia.com proposes the notion that goodness is often linked to beauty and that a person's external appearance reflects their inner beauty. This concept implies that if an individual appears attractive on the outside, they likely possess emotional stability and physical wellbeing internally. Additionally, Image Educator advocates for individuals to prioritize reflecting their genuine soul and inner beauty, rather than solely focusing on their external appearance.

According to my questionnaire analysis, 60% of respondents believe that our society values external beauty over inner beauty. However, 90% of respondents do not believe that external beauty necessarily indicates inner beauty. This suggests that while we may acknowledge the superiority of inner beauty, we may be hesitant to admit it. Emphasizing physical appearance is akin to valuing wrapping over the gift itself (Kittles).

According to Ferns, it is widely known that external beauty can be lost due to various reasons, whereas inner beauty remains unaffected and may even improve with time. This can be traced back to various factors that have existed for a long time, including our childhood experiences where fairy tales often depicted attractive characters as good and unattractive ones as villains without delving into their true personalities.

The significance of good looks in society is presented to children through fairy tales (Jenny). In my analysis of a questionnaire, 60% of respondents agreed with Jenny. However, external beauty is not always indicative of inner beauty, as some people may be outwardly beautiful but empty

inside, while others may be the opposite. Unfortunately, in modern times, many people are overly focused on their external appearance. Women in particular strive for outer beauty, regardless of their inner selves. According to Kittles, only 2% of the population meets the standard of true beauty, leading 98% of individuals to feel insecure about their appearance and concentrate solely on their outward image.

The confidence that comes with physical beauty can often lead to arrogance and unintended harm towards others. The obsession with outer beauty can cause some to neglect their inner well-being, which ultimately diminishes their true beauty. It is important to prioritize both physical and emotional health to become a better person inside and out (Kittles). It's crucial to recognize that a healthy internal state translates into an outwardly healthy appearance, including a glowing complexion and radiant skin.

The condition of both your internal and emotional health impacts your external appearance. A person's level of happiness is often apparent in their facial expression, while negative emotions like anger may also be noticeable. By maintaining good inner beauty practices, such as controlling anxiety and keeping a healthy disposition, you can avoid appearing pale or nervous. Generally, it is difficult to achieve perfection in both external and internal aspects of beauty as they have an interconnected relationship.

According to Reman, while good looks are important for women, it is better to focus on enhancing inner beauty as it will bring out outer beauty. This is because being kinder or friendlier will make one more beautiful on the outside by highlighting their inner beauty. In addition, many people now resemble each other in appearance, and those who look

different are often considered to be lacking in external beauty. However, Image Educator emphasizes that each person is unique and should focus on developing a strong inner beauty to avoid hurting those around them. The media is currently promoting a copycat image based on models featured in commercials.

Reman suggests that each person is unique and possessing a good personality is an everlasting beauty. It's crucial to maintain our identity, mindset, and personality by avoiding copying others. With consistent practice, we can appreciate beauty beyond physical appearance and recognize the individual behind the attractive looks. Lack of inner beauty can result in loss of fame, love from people around us or material possessions such as money earned from modeling career. In conclusion, beauty is subjective.

Melendez believes that beauty is a matter of personal perception, which was confirmed by 90% of the respondents in a survey. Beauty is viewed differently by each individual and what one person considers beautiful may be considered ugly by another due to our unique creation by God resulting in differing levels of appreciation for beauty.

Love can impact a person's perception of beauty, often putting emphasis on inner qualities rather than external appearance. Even if something is not visually pleasing, if it is created by someone the person loves, it will still be seen as perfect. This concept is summarized in the phrase "Love is blind." However, critics argue that in many areas of life, success is often based on physical attractiveness in addition to skills (Lee).

According to popular belief, attractive individuals are more likely to receive preferential treatment in various aspects of life, particularly in job interviews where it is believed that

better-looking candidates have an advantage in securing better positions and promotions. This belief is further reinforced by claims of better social lives and more successful marriages for good-looking individuals who supposedly garner the best jobs. While these claims may hold some truth, the historical evolution of beauty standards has also given rise to negative practices such as plastic surgery and eating disorders (Wikipedia).

The societal focus on physical beauty leads individuals to resort to plastic surgery and develop eating disorders, which ultimately hinders their true inner value. Despite the advantages that good looks bring, their superficiality cannot sustain long-term opportunities and success in life (Melendez).

There is a concerning trend towards an increased number of plastic surgeries in society today, driven by women and men who believe that improving their physical appearance will bring them happiness. However, these individuals fail to fully consider the potential side effects associated with plastic surgery procedures, and there are no guarantees for ultimate results. In addition to this, prevalent eating disorder diseases such as anorexia and bulimia also plague society. These conditions stem from body dysmorphia whereby individuals starve themselves due to the belief that eating will lead to becoming overweight and being ostracized by society. Sadly, teenagers are mostly affected by the desire to achieve a skinny physique which is often influenced by models and celebrities featured in media.

If the obsession with physical beauty in society continues, there will be a rise in anorexia and plastic surgeries. Nevertheless, individuals should not disregard their external appearance. Rather, they should focus on nurturing both inner and outer beauty without turning to damaging artificial methods. As Gibran famously said, "Beauty is not

in the face; beauty is a light in the heart." Ultimately, genuine beauty originates from within and ignoring this can lead to negative consequences.

Challenging Beauty. com states that a US statistic indicates that 81% of women believe that every woman is beautiful in her own unique way, while 59% believe that beauty varies depending on the situation, and 75% feel that spirit and love for life are the source of beauty, rather than appearance. Despite this, people often seek happiness in the wrong places and prioritize physical appearance over inner beauty, although attractiveness can make life easier. Jenny notes that 60% of respondents to her survey stated that they would be happier if they were more beautiful. However, accepting oneself as God intended and having confidence in one's appearance would lead to greater happiness.
