They only had papers for Father and Mother. -Hom Hing is a Chinese merchant and has had his business in San Francisco for many years. -James Clancy is the lawyer who helps them get the baby. He wants $500. -They didnt have money, so they gave him Gold. -The baby was taken away for 10 months. -The baby was named Little Kim by the school. He was the pet of the place. -The baby did not want to return to the mother, he said "go'way!,go'way".

-By Sui Sin Far -Jack Fabian is a smuggler, he gets chinese people to go from Canada to United States. -Jack doesn't want glory or fame. Just Money. -Jack eventually was caught and sent to prison. He escaped to Canada with a saw which was given to him from a very innocent-looking visitor. -Tie Co owns a Washee' Business. -Tie Co wanted to go to New York. Said he will pay $50. -They took a horse,but left it at the farmhouse to cross a river in a rowboat. -Tie Co jumped over the bridge. And disappeared in the current of the river. -Fabian tried to go after him, but found himself a prisoner again. -Tie Co's body was found, and appeared as a Woman. -Tie Co liked Jack Fabian and wanted to go to New York with him. - Tie Co was released from prison in less than a week, because they had no evidence against him.

Between these names, I never knew I would ever get lost." -She maybe be lost and confused?

When they got to her house, it was too late and too dark for Myrna to walk home by herself so Richie walked her home. -As she watched Richie and Myrna walk away, Myrna's body slightly leaned toward his. -It was then she stopped being Myrna's best friend.

Philip was the only one who came because Ginny had a family emergency in Massachusetts. Philip brought papadums and pickled mango achaar. -Mary Crawford was the landlady. -The mother did not want to go to Bombay, she wanted to stay in America to die. She did not want to be in a coffin. - The girl(Kamal) cremated his mother. She scattered her ashes across the continent. -Mary Crawford was on a quest. -She had to find her and get the sari back from her. -Mary Crawford was in Oaxaca in search of authentic curanderas. -When Kamal got to the house there, She found out Mary Crawford died. -Kamal knew Spanish because his mother insisted on it, maybe one day they'd go to Peru. -She called the bag of ashes the "mother bag" -The maroon sari cloth was used as an altar cloth. -The sari had a missing piece. It was cut in Wisconsin. Kamal needed it for a costume event in Kindergarten. -The mother made a dress for the event, and cut out a piece of the sari. -Kamal leaves the sari there and says he already has a piece in the dress. Its better to leave it in Oaxaca, where the old lady dreams and herbs...(Herb is Te Malabar)

Lilia is a ten-year-old Indian girl. She recalls events that occur in the fall of 1971. Her family has a regular dinner guest at their home. Mr. Pirzada is from Dacca, the capital of Pakistan. He lives there with a wife and seven daughters whose names all start with A. Because of the war with India he does not hear from them in six months. Mr. Pirzada has a grant to study New England foliage. He begins in Vermont and Maine but now lives in a graduate dorm room at a university north of Boston where he lectures. His grant is small, so Lilia's parents feed him and others visiting from their homeland.

-By: Naomi Shihab Nye -Nobody had too much money. -Lena is main character. -They(the girl and boy at the door) were looking for the "Arab", (Lena's Dad). -Lena's Dad was named Aziz. -A package arrived and it was a red velvet dress,sewn by Lena's grandmother and aunts in the village overseas. -It was stitched with two angels and birds and interlocking vines, all in different bright colors. -She wore it to school the next day and her friends asked where did she get it from, and she responded saying, "it is my arab dress from my arab relatives far across the sea."
