A Good Man Is Hard to Find: Secondary Source Essay Example
“Violence in a good man is hard to find, the faces of marginality” Begins by talking about how humans live their lives without morals and ethics, they compare people in today’s world to the characters of o Connors short story. The misfits are considered the dark side of society and the grandmother is the good. This demonstrates how good and evil coexist side by side. The author says how the grandmother is good and therefore she experiences a moment of epiphany that would only be given to the protagonist of the story.
O Connor says how we learn through violence and because of the tragic events of the story the grandmother is given a moment of grace for recognizing the misfit as one of her own children. They state that o Connors w
...ork serves as a paradigmatic indictment, where criminals are not only aggressors but victims. I agree that good and evil are one in the same, but I do not feel that the grandmother had a moment of grace, because she was murdered.
She did learn to accept the misfit as though it was one of her children by offering him clothing, but this didn’t save her life or her families lives. The story to me shows that evil triumphs over good, because everyone was murdered except for the misfit, a moment of realization is not a win if it’s also the ending of your life. There’s a reason why criminals choose to kill but they are not always victims as the article states. The victims of the story were the grandmother and her family not the misfit.
