I am the owner of a small-size travel agency called Dream Travel. The agency is situated in Gefinor Centre, Hamra, Beirut. I have three employees working in the agency, two for general reservations and ticketing and the other employee deals with tailor-made packages. I also have an office boy whom I send to do different errands. As a non-IATA travel agency, I am not able to issue tickets, book hotels, etc. except by the help of other IATA-certified travel agencies.
This significantly affects my revenue since I do not receive the full commission given by the airline or hotel, car rental agency, etc. I also lose some of my customers since I cannot follow up with their bookings as I should always refer back with the IATA-certified agencies that often have a busy line. Not having an IATA lic
...ense also incur additional costs such as: * Loss of market share due to difficulty of following up with the reservations * Failure to create a strong force that can affect the decisions of the suppliers in the industry * Loss of part of the commission to the agency issuing the tickets * Rise in the costs of bills, i.e. telephone bills
In this project, I am going to use the PDCA cycle to obtain the IATA license and solve the above weak points and consequently improve my service quality level. Obtaining the IATA license will greatly benefit my agency through: * Obtaining a unique numeric code to my agency which enables instant recognition of my agency’s location * Earning access to airline members' inventory and ticketing worldwide * Attaining access and use of the airlines' distribution system
BSP - Billing and Settlement Plan) * Gaining efficiencies through IATA standardization
* Benefitting from the constant enhancement of IATA’s portfolio of products and services D – Doing: Initiating Solutions on a Test Basis In order to obtain the IATA license for my travel agency, I should first produce proof that my travel agency is legally registered and have been working for five years in the business. Second, I should submit all documentation of relevant tax forms and insurance records. Third, I should present my sales records that show my achievements in selling airline tickets, hotel arrangements, and individual and group tours. I should also enter all the sales totals into a spreadsheet and present the information in a clear and understandable format. Then I should pay the required accreditation fee which is 165 US dollars for a private agency.
Finally, I can receive the full accreditation as a licensed IATA travel agent along with a letter with the date of the received accreditation (an official IATA Certificate of Accreditation). I also receive an IATA window sign to display at my agency, and a unique IATA numeric code, which gives the agency international recognition as a licensed IATA travel agency. My employees should be briefed about the benefits of the IATA certificate. They should also be sent to training courses on CRSs, Computer Reservation System.
C – Checking:
Evaluating the Results It is essential to make weekly meetings at first with the employees. The objective of these meetings is to make sure that the employees understand the purpose and benefits of attaining the IATA certificate. The meetings will also answer the employees’ questions and find practical solutions to the
problems they are facing. The results can be measured by the increase in the percentage of sold air tickets, hotel rooms, car rentals, etc.
A – Acting:
Monitoring the Results It is guaranteed that obtaining the IATA certificate will show positive results to the performance and quality level of my agency. The employees at the agency will find after some time that working in an IATA-certified agency is a lot easier than working in a non-IATA agency. They will not have to call other agencies to issue air tickets, change bookings, book hotel accommodation, etc. Arranging tailor-made packages will also be easier than ever. I predict an increase in profit after obtaining the certificate, and a decrease in the monthly costs. Finally, attaining the IATA license is quite beneficial for Dream Travel and the plan has little to no disadvantages.
