The law bans discrimination based on sexual orientation, encompassing being gay, lesbian, heterosexual, or bisexual. This protection extends to individuals who have friends who are gay or lesbians, visit gay clubs, or are perceived as being gay, lesbian, or heterosexual even if they are not themselves. combat racism, African Americans, native Indians, and other minority races still experience different treatment based on their sexual orientation compared to white individuals. The introduction of new military personnel policies addressing race and sexual orientation has faced opposition from those who historically supported segregation policies, including white individuals in the armed forces. However, there are also distinctions between sexual and racial orientations. Race is often visible while sexual orientation can be concealed. While there are notable differences between the two groups in terms of the ratio of racial minority military personnel and openly gay individuals, it is anticipated that the number of openly gay individuals in the military will continue to be comparatively limited.
