Whilst reading the book Tom Finder I found myself fascinated with the topic and theme of the book, Homelessness. There were also many things that I wondered about. Also, I have seemed to have found many flaws in society as a whole. This essay also touched many subjects in our day to day “real” lives. This essay is mainly to talk about these wonders and flaws. Although the topic of homelessness does not affect me personally I often see homeless people around downtown Brantford and I start to wonder.
Why do people stay homeless, because often many homeless people have chances to get off the streets such as welfare checks and homeless shelters, but yet they choose not to take them? I suppose in many cases it may be a
...case of mental instability or under age or may simply not qualify for help. Another thing that I wonder is why people are so rude to homeless people and why they choose to ignore them as if they’re not even there.
As described on page 24 “He ran back to the core, back to the skyscrapers and the people dressed in black whose faces and clothes weren’t crushed by the air, whose gaze was above his head. Tom ran until he was safe and invisible. ” What this quote basically states is that tom referred to the core, with all the people made him feel safe and invisible because no one acknowledged him. This is disgusting in my opinion that we cannot notice people during their darkest days and when there at “Rock Bottom” and thats just not right.
