The Social Disorganization Theory: Crime Essay Example

Christopher Sean’s frustration was that he could not perform well in school because of his mental health which he struggled with since he was young. The life of the gunman took a wrong turn after his dismissal from the Army in 2008. Christopher failed to meet the minimum serving ability as constituted on the standards of administration.A witness, Jacobsen, said he was in an English class when he heard gunshots from the adjacent room. The parents and students are living in fear for their lives and they want the government to enforce a gun control policy in the country. President Obama promised the people that he will continue to push for stricter gun laws (Duwe, 2007).

The concept that does a poor job in explaining this crime is the social disorganization theory. This model explains that the physical environment makes people choose particular behavioral choices. That is, a neighborhood with particular social standards such as poor schools, vandalized buildings, and unemployment can have more crimes than others. However, the reasons for the discussed offense do not match the social disorganization theory. The offender’s purpose for killing people at the school was because of frustration. His dismissal from the army and his inability to perform well in school were the main causes for resorting to murder. The reason for the application of these theories is that the genetic model clearly explains the situation considering the causes of crime. On the other hand, social disorganization concept has

no relation at all on the case under study (Duwe, 2007).
