This paper will examine the various changes that have happened be
...tween the progressive eras in America as from 1906 to 1920.
Major changes that have happened and seen the advancement of America happened during the progressive era (1906-1920).The Washington’s post cartoon writings of 1907 was one of the contributions. This characterized various images of presidents of the country and the progressive changes they had made in the country. With an effort to evaluate the presidency effectiveness in the progressive era and the reforms they brought, Neil Reynolds report of 1906 was written. This was to expose the advancements that presidents brought.
One of the changes that happed is the advancements in agriculture that saw a regulation in the food sector that brought a meat inspection program. This was in response to the publication of Upton Sinclair’s act the jungle. This meat inspection act stated that no mea
would be allowed for consumption without being inspected. This had followed the exposition of Chicago meat. The progressive era was so vibrant that every sector in the country economy was being reviewed.
An important review was brought by Jane Addams who was a feminist. Having fought in the American civil war as a soldier, Jane came up with ideas that saw provision of advanced care for the women and children. This continued efforts saw the development of the Hull house which took care of more than 2000 people within a period of two weeks.
This was followed by the Roosevelt speech of 1912 after being elected as the president. It simply focused on all the transformative American democracy. Americans had realized the need to vote wisely in making transformative changes that would give them a voice of democracy in the constitution.
With the anticipated changes and the voice of people in the constitution led to the Claytons anti-trust act of 1914. This act enhanced the Sherman’s antitrust act of the 1890. This review had a focus of prohibiting exclusive sales and local price cuts with an effort to freeze competitors. It is the same act that legalized boycotts and peaceful strikes by promoting the labor unions.
With the authorization of boycotts came another idea put forward by Herbert Croly who wrote about a new republic in 1914 where liberalism came into course. This writing was a reflection from Herbert’s father who was a follower of a French writer Augustine Comte. Comte and Herberts father had talked about the “modern thinker”. This is what geared the progressive era to the end in 1920. With this idea, there was increased production
of goods with a lot of markets overseas.
However, the writings of Hammer-V Dagenhart in 1918 saw the ban of all the shipments’ of goods produced in companies where children below 14 years were employed. This was an attempt to end child labor and which turned out successful. In the year 1919, a crisis came when soldiers had returned from the First World War.
They argued that what they had fought for could not just be stolen and this saw the pushing out of corrupt officials. This is what was referred to the Dubois crisis of 1919. Between this time, America managed to make great advancements which are evident up to date. This significance changes are the factors that have made the united states of the modern day attain its economic superiority.
