What is Robert Louis Stevenson?

Robert Louis Stevenson was a Scottish novelist, poet, and travel writer who is best known for his adventurous works such as Treasure Island and The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Born in Edinburgh in 1850, Stevenson was first inspired to write by his fondness for the Scottish Highlands and its people. He wrote some of his earliest stories while staying at Edinburgh’s Royal Infirmary after suffering from severe health issues throughout much of his youth. After publishing his first book, An Inland Voyage (1878), he gained notoriety as an author with the publication of Treasure Island (1883).The success of this novel allowed him to relocate to Samoa where he wrote during the last five years of his life before passing away in 1894 due to a cerebral hemorrhage. During this time, he published several other works including Kidnapped (1886) and Catriona (1893). His work has since been adapted into numerous plays, films, television adaptations, and even video games. Beyond that, Robert Louis Stevenson’s influence can be seen in many other authors such as Jack London who drew influence from him when writing The Call Of The Wild (1903).Throughout Robert Louis Stevenson’s work there is a common theme found within each piece: adventure. His stories are full of thrilling moments that capture readers’ imaginations with their captivating scenes and characters. Furthermore, Stevenson often uses elements such as morality play or horror to add depth within these stories which makes them timeless classic tales that can still be enjoyed today. Additionally, despite being written over a century ago much of the themes found within these stories remain relevant today making them just as enjoyable now as they were when they were first written.
