What is National Park Service?

The National Park Service (NPS) is a U.S. government agency that manages and protects over 400 national parks, monuments, and historical sites across the United States. Established in 1916 by President Woodrow Wilson, the NPS was created to preserve the nation’s natural resources for future generations to enjoy. The NPS works to ensure that visitors have an opportunity to explore and appreciate the beauty of America’s public lands while also protecting them from misuse and degradation.The National Park Service is responsible for overseeing all aspects of park management including maintenance of facilities, providing visitor services, developing educational programs, conducting scientific research, monitoring wildlife populations, and managing fire suppression activities. In addition to managing park lands within their jurisdiction, they are also responsible for enforcing federal laws pertaining to hunting and fishing as well as protecting endangered species on public lands such as national parks or wilderness areas. In order to accomplish these tasks effectively, the NPS employs a wide array of experts such as biologists, archaeologists, historians, rangers and many more professional staff members who work together in order to protect America’s parklands from human impacts like pollution or development encroachment while also preserving natural habitats for wildlife species living within them. The National Park Service offers a variety of recreational opportunities for visitors including camping trips; hiking trails; boating excursions; educational programs about local history or ecology; breathtaking views from overlooks; guided tours through caves or canyons; ranger-led interpretive activities highlighting native plants or animals; backcountry activities such as rafting or horseback riding; bird watching expeditions through forests; rock climbing adventures down cliffsides; photography workshops capturing images of wildflowers in bloom or sunsets over mountain ranges just to name a few.
