What is Air Force?
The Air Force is the aerial warfare service branch of the United States Armed Forces, responsible for aerial operations and defending the nation’s airspace. The Air Force provides global airpower capabilities to support US national security objectives through its ability to rapidly deploy forces and engage in expeditionary combat operations. The Air Force is also responsible for providing aerospace control, intelligence and reconnaissance capabilities. Founded in 1947 as a part of the newly formed United States Department of Defense, the Air Force has become one of America’s most important military branches.The mission of the Air Force is to defend America and protect its interests by providing airpower that is global reach, global power – able to project force across all domains (land, sea, air space) worldwide. The primary roles for which the Air Force is responsible include strategic deterrence; strike operations; close air support; special operations; interdiction/strike; intelligence surveillance/reconnaissance; airspace control/defense; counterair missions against aircraft and missile threats; space control or attack operations against ground targets from space platforms; electronic combat in support of offensive or defensive operations involving suppression or destruction of enemy electronic systems. Additionally, many other missions are performed in order to maintain a high level of readiness should they be required during times of crisis or conflict.The current size and scope of the USAF has grown significantly since its creation over seventy years ago when it was first established as an independent service branch within the Department Of Defense (DOD). Today there are five active duty components: Regular U.S. Air Force (USAF), U.S. Space Command (USSPACECOM), U.S Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), U S Central Command (CENTCOM) ,and Pacific Air Forces (AFCENT). This expansive organization serves a varietyof needs including rapid global mobility in times of crisis as well as providing essential security anywhere aroundthe world by acting as a deterrent against foreign aggression via its long-range nuclear strike capabilities. Theyare also charged with developing new technologies such as hypersonic missiles that can travel at speeds greater than Mach 5 while still maintaining accuracy at distances greater than 500 miles away from their target area. In addition , they provide invaluable intelligence data through their use sophisticated reconnaissance tools suchas satellites. Finally , they play an important role in protecting American civilians from various natural disastersby monitoring events on land , sea , and atmospheric levels.
