In the late 16th century, skating gained popularity as a leisure activity and competitive sport. A Scottish innovator created an innovative skate design with iron blades during this period.
Skating and speed skating became popular due to the development of iron-bladed skates. The Skating Club of Edinburgh, established in 1642, was the first recorded skating club. In 1763, the inaugural official speed skating race occurred. Animal bones like cows and horses were frequently used to manufacture these skates.
After closer examination, it was revealed that the skates were polished on one side and had a hole on the other. This hole was utilized to fasten the skates to the skater's feet.
