Self-control is a human strength that enables a person to relate well with the people close to him or her. Individuals who can control themselves are less temperamental, listeners, slow to act, they can monitor their thoughts and are open to change. They tend to be more successful, have strong relationships and are popular. Self-regulation is an important personality since it allows integration because a person is in charge of their feelings and can control their emotions and anger in the presence of many people (Cavallo, et al, 2012)..

Lack of self-control is mostly prompted by a person’s ego which makes them arrogant and only trusts in themselves alone. A self-regulated individual tends to foresee people’s weakness to resist the temptation of getting out of control for them to achieve a particular goal. To be able to control oneself a person has to be able to work with limited resources for them to measure what they are using and work hard to gain more. Self-discipline portrays strength, when a person is able, have constancy in reasoning and reacting to different situations since a change in behavior can result to poor self-discipline and lead to a rapid decision that may affect the person (Laura, et al, 2011).

For change to be noticed people have high self-confidence to speak out their grievances and to confront the issues they are facing for them to be able to hear out. A highly confident person can achieve more than an individual who has low esteem since they have goals and believe they have to achieve. A confident person is self-driven, highly motivated, very opinionated, adventurous and careful these traits help them to stand out and make what they want. Low esteem makes a person to fear trying out new things or even express him or herself since they are not sure of themselves. Environments determine the kind of regard a person can have this is, in a supportive environment a person can build their dreams and make them a reality. In a condemning environment, a person grows up in fear which affects their freedom of expression since they fear their opinions are incorrect.

Self-esteem helps a person develop a measure to follow for them to control themselves. Although self-esteem boosts confidence, it is more opinionated, unlike self-control where one has to behave in a certain way according to their morals. A belief in oneself does not guarantee that a person is bound to succeed unlike when a person has self-regulation they have to behave in a particular way according to their set standards for them to attain their

goal. Through self-control, an individual establishes a conduct in which they can carry themselves in the presence of others or when they are alone (Cavallo, et al, 2012).

Self-presentation is an essential element since it forms an impression on other people’s mind of what to think of you. The presentation has to be impressive so as to attract people into listening and even interacting with you. Therefore, self-presentation is the first impression that a person will always be related to and reveals outside information about a person. Although self-presentation is an individual duty to work on, the judges to determine whether it was good or bad are friends, teachers, bosses, and even parents. An excellent presentation shows high morals that are to be admired while bad may lead to misjudgment of character.

Although people may say the care little about others thoughts

on them, it is imperative to stop caring about the way people see you. If people see you as a bad company, they avoid you hence lowering your self-esteem.

Self-esteem, self-regulation, and self-presentation are all meant to control a person’s behavior and in turn help, them effectively relate with other people. An individual who has well established the three can deal with most of the challenges and also emerge successfully. The three traits help develop healthy relationships among people since they are well controlled. Although the three characters are good for self-development if a person loses their power they may end up losing their uphold values.

Due to the pressure, society mounts on individual people are driven to find ways to help them build their self-esteem. Most of the high esteemed people tend to bully the low esteemed people mostly in learning institutions. Due to the overconfidence, the people seem to get away with mistreating others the drive for them to achieve makes them do even worse things just to attain their goals. Some people result in using drugs to boost their self-esteem because due to low self-esteem they feel left out and lead in using drugs to boost their esteem.

In the era where the internet is rampant most of the youth’s value more what people think of them through the social media likes hence would do anything to achieve publicity. Many of them go for plastic surgery and uplifts to enhance their looks. They continue posting embarrassing pictures which tarnish their images but for them, bad publicity is more fame. They do not consider future repercussions like cancer and lack of employment due to negative publicity.

Self-control is the highest of the virtues since a self-driven person does not require monitoring and their self-image matter a lot to them. Therefore, it is essential for a person to have self-control for them to achieve the rest (Wilcox, et al, 2013).
