Topic: The use of biogas as a fuel source on the farm
Biogas is widely used on farms as an affordable and reliable power source. It can be easily obtained from readily available raw materials, especially animal waste. This makes it highly recommended for farm use because it not only converts animal waste into biogas but also produces well-fermented remains that act as fertilizer.
Another advantage of biogas is its safety compared to other fuels. When burned, it produces minimal to no smoke. Additionally, biogas has diverse applications such as cooking, lighting, and powering both light and heavy-duty engines. More information about acquiring and utilizing biogas on farms is discussed below.
Discussion
Occurrence
Biogas forms through the microbiological decomposition of organic feedstock in an oxygen-free environment.
This paragraph explains the production of biogas, which can oc
...cur in two different environments: an engineered anaerobic digester or naturally in swampy and marshy areas. The process consists of three phases. The initial phase, hydrolysis, breaks down organic cells to generate substances such as amino acids, fatty acids, and sugars. Hydrolysis determines the size of the ad system. In the second phase, fermentation transforms the products obtained from hydrolysis into amino acids, propionate, and long-chain fatty acids. Finally, during the third phase called methanisation, methane gas (CH4) is produced from these fermentation products.
Composition
Biogas consists of 60% methane and 40% carbon dioxide. The methane content can be increased up to 97-99% to produce natural gas, which is more valuable and versatile. Natural gas can be used in various areas and can also be packaged for sale. Biogas has various uses, including direct combustion in systems such
as boilers and flares.
