The knowledge on the nuclear source of energy is a great benefit to the people. It saves energy demands a lot and helps the productivity of many economies grow. However, this energy can also be disastrous and produce adverse effects to the environment and the human beings involved. This paper will discuss both the advantages and the disadvantages of nuclear chemistry, and then come up with a conclusion on which overweighs the other.

Generation of current electricity via nuclear energy minimizes the amount of energy which is generated from the fossil fuels like oil and coal. The reduction of fossil fuels means reducing emissions of the greenhouse gases. At the present time, the fossil fuels are usually consumed at a faster rate than they are emitted. Therefore, probably in the next few years these resources may reduce o

r their price increases to an extent of becoming inaccessible to many people. Another advantage of this source is that a small amount produces a huge energy supply. This satisfies the demands of the world to electricity. In addition, this means that the costs of extraction and transportation are also reduced. As a result, the overall cost of production of the nuclear fuel is about 20% the cost of the output.

The generation of electricity from this source is continuous. A power plant of nuclear is able to generate energy in about 90% of the annual time. This minimizes price volatility of the other fuels like petrol. Continuity of generation makes planning for electricity easier and possible. This power is not dependent on the natural aspects. It serves as a solution for the disadvantage of the sources that are renewable

such as the solar energy, because the availability of sun or even wind is limited to the time of the day. The availability of solar energy is not always coinciding with hours of energy demand.

Nuclear energy serves as an alternative to the fossil fuels; therefore their consumption is considerably reduced. The reduction of the consumption of fossil fuels means that global warming is also reduced, as well as climate change. This improves the quality of life by cleaning the air around humans.

However, in as much as reduction in consumption of fossil fuels is counted as an advantage, it is also a disadvantage. Much of fossil fuel is used in heat engines, road transport etc. this means that the cost implication of fossil fuel is low. Also, despite the increased level of the sophistication of safety systems of the nuclear power plants human aspect always has an impact. There is no guarantee that the measures taken to manage nuclear accident are the best. In case of a nuclear accident, the destructions are massive, and they live for very long. This is a very good cause of cancer and the deformations experienced in areas where a nuclear accident has ever been reported.

Another disadvantage is the complication in management of the wastes. This poses a huge financial implication. Constructed reactors also have their expiry date by which they have to be dismantled. The energy that is generated in nuclear plants is cheaper compared to fossil fuels, but the cost in construction in case of recovery is much more expensive. In areas where terrorists use arms made of nuclear items, the effects are very bad.
