College and high school life appears more similar than the contrary considering normal perceptions and mere assumptions. In an academic perspective, during the transitioning process only a few aspects will seem similar while many more will be contrast. Moreover, the commonalities such as grading systems and class structures will become significantly complex. The variations which includes increased responsibilities and the measure to which the students are required to implicate themselves, challenges their abilities and their discipline. In my experiences through high school and college, I have noticed many similarities and contrasts between my high school teachers and college professors. Highlighting some similarities is that, both professors and teachers are meant to teach, have grading styles and polices, deadlines and due dates for projects and papers as well as a sense of comparison.

...hool teachers are seen by most people as being similar while performing similar tasks of teaching, a fine line of distinction separates them based on their contrasting expectations for the students. Mentioning some contrasts between them is that, high school teachers provides foundation of knowledge in preparation for the higher expectations of college and thus, they will expect their students to be punctual. On the contrary, the college professor works to promote student’s self-reliance, independence in learning and critical thinking. However, teachers often remind their students about incomplete work, due dates and missing assignments while college professors do not monitor student’s incomplete work as they require them to follow the course syllabus.
Furthermore, teachers expect students to get their work done, whereas college professors expects that the student puts extra effort since they don’t hunt students down for wor
or make them come to class because it is student’s responsibility. The students have to be responsible for doing their work, showing up in class and seeking assistance. Unlike teachers in high school, college professor treat their students as adults and have high expectations for them which shapes and influences their behavior. While teachers may often identify students who seem to be in need of assistance and approach them for help, in college the professors are not that much personal as they only know students by a name and a grade not as a person and therefore, they just give students their papers and leave it out to them to reach out and get help.
Moreover, teachers are in most cases available for consultations by their students any time. On the other hand, professors only provide a time schedule in which they may be available in their offices for any consultations. In addition, teachers always avail information to their students in case of absenteeism to ensure they are at par with others whereas professors will not provide any information missed by their students as they require them to take responsibility and copy notes from their classmates. Also, teachers often highlight important points to their students and could even aid in word spelling through writing for them on the board in order to copy. On the contrary, professors do not care about what their students write as they are expected to infer from the lecture only the important notes.
In conclusion, high school and college life is coupled with similarities and differences based on the class structures, grading systems as well as tutor’s expectations for their students. However,
comparing professors and teachers is that they share a common main task which involves teaching students in their respective capacities. Despite the preconceived assumption that teachers and professor serve similar duties, it is important to note that they have divergent approaches and methodologies while executing their tasks. This is also evident considering that college professors won’t have the same expectations and investment in student’s success as high school teachers.
