As we grow, we are taught by multiple entities, including parents, educational institutions, and religious organizations, how to differentiate between good and bad. Nevertheless, as we move forward in life, it becomes increasingly difficult to adhere to our own moral values when faced with intricate circumstances or ethical predicaments.

Being confronted with a moral dilemma poses a difficult decision between two equally unpleasant options that violate ethical principles. No matter the chosen action, the individual will have transgressed moral guidelines and may experience intense feelings of regret and culpability. I encountered such an ethical dilemma when faced with the choice of revealing to my friend that his spouse was dating my new school friend. Despite the possibility of destroying a marriage and home, I opted to do what was ethically correct and div

ulged the truth. Michael, whom I had been friends with for many years since playing soccer together after school, and I had a highly competitive friendship, yet I always knew he would be there for me as an unwavering friend.

Upon learning of Michael's decision to propose and marry his soul mate, I was overjoyed. Attending their wedding, I initially found the idea of marriage daunting. However, witnessing their ceremony and looking at Michael and Lisa, I believed their love to be perfect. Shortly thereafter, I received an email announcing Lisa's pregnancy. At that moment, I felt confident that nothing could disrupt their happiness as they now had a child to solidify their love. Unfortunately, my work and school schedule caused me to lose contact with Michael.

me through a call or email. However, I soon understood that forging friendships was crucial for navigating college life successfully. To ensure I didn't miss out on anything important, I endeavored to make at least one friend in every class. During an introductory course, I befriended Ernesto. Our connection was immediate and strong as if we had been familiar with each other for years.

Ernesto and I developed a friendship that extended beyond college due to our shared interests in music, pay per view fights, and playing pool. One Saturday evening, he invited me to watch an OFC fight with him and his girlfriend. He wanted my opinion as he was considering a serious relationship with her. As I had no plans for the evening, I happily accepted his invitation.

Upon reaching the meeting place, I discovered that the woman accompanying my friend Ernesto was none other than Lisa, Michael's wife. The realization that their union might not be as perfect as it seemed left me feeling disheartened. Watching Lisa's affectionate manner towards Ernesto made me feel both envious and surreal about Michael's supposed happy ending. However, I found myself in a dilemma – should I tell Michael about his wife's actions or choose to remain silent hoping she would do the same? The situation was further complicated by my close relationship with Ernesto; I did not want to involve him in any potential drama.

Despite my desire to discuss Ernesto's involvement with a married woman who has a child, I recognized that hurting him would not be appropriate. Ernesto assumed Lisa was single since she wasn't wearing her ring, prompting him to invite me to join them

that evening. As a result, I chose to contact Ernesto while driving and inform him of an urgent matter preventing my attendance.

When I observed an urgent circumstance, I encountered a significant ethical predicament that was impossible to disregard. Although I deliberated for a while on the most appropriate approach, it was certain that someone would be harmed regardless of my decision. Being an ardent advocate of sincerity, my inner voice weighed heavily on me and required careful contemplation.

From a young age, my mother instilled in me the value of being truthful and emphasized the importance of honesty. I firmly believe that any act of omission would go against ethical principles. As such, I organized a lunch meeting with Michael at a restaurant for the next day. Upon his arrival, I noticed that he seemed more disheartened than usual and he confided in me that he and Lisa were experiencing difficulties in their relationship.

After some time, I revealed the truth to him which he received with appreciation and a clear plan for the future. It wasn't until months later that I discovered he had gotten divorced and was now co-parenting their child with Lisa. Initially, I felt remorseful and overwhelmed as if my actions had caused the end of their marriage. However, upon further reflection, I realized that Lisa's infidelity was the cause of their separation rather than anything for which I was responsible.

Initially, my goal was to aid Michael in his challenging marriage and relationship by presenting proof and justification for divorce. Initially, I had reservations about disturbing the happiness of the home with a child involved. However, in actuality, I prevented the child from

growing up in an environment where their parents bickered pointlessly due to their absence of affection for each other. When confronted with moral predicaments, decision-making is never simple as one must select between two evils while hoping that minimal damage will result from their choice. Nonetheless, relying on your own moral values is crucial when confronting ethical challenges.

Although it resulted in divorce, my choice to reveal my unfaithful spouse prevented a whole family from living a falsehood.
