Business Professionals of America; A co-curricular organization that supports business and information technology educators by offering co-curricular exercises based on national standards. High school/college program only in 23 states and Puerto Rico. Similar structure to DECA. It began in 1966. DECA was founded in 1946.

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America; A nonprofit national career and technical student organization for young men and women in Family and Consumer Sciences education in public and private school through grade 12. Everyone is part of a family, and FCCLA is the only national Career and Technical Student Organization with the family as its central focus. Since 1945, FCCLA members have been making a difference in their families, careers, and communities by addressing important personal, work, and societal issues through Family and Consumer Sciences education.

Future Farmers of America; An intercurricular student organization for those interested in agriculture and leadership. It is one of three components of agricultural education

Michigan DECA is encouraging each chapter to increase their membership by five members or more. Each chapter that increases their membership by five members will receive a special Recognition Plaque for display in their classroom. Chapters with 100% membership can participate by signing up at least five Alumni and/or Professional members; in addition to the chapter advisor(s)

Health Occupations Students of America; An international student organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Health Science Education (HSE) Division of ACTE. HOSA's two-fold mission is to promote career opportunities in the healthcare industry and to enhance the delivery of quality healthcare to all people. HOSA's goal is to encourage all health science instructors and students to join and be actively involved in the HSE-HOSA Partnership

International Career Development Conference (April 21st - April 24th, 2018 in Atlanta, Georgia) More than 10,000 DECA members demonstrate their college and career knowledge and skills by participating in DECA's Competitive Events Program. They are finalists from their chartered associations hoping to be named an international champion

Muscular Dystrophy Association; The world's leading nonprofit health agency dedicated to finding treatments and cures for muscular dystrophy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and other neuromuscular diseases

DECA's Marketing Representative Events provide opportunities for students to create promotional campaigns for a variety of industries. 1. Advertising Campaign 2. Fashion Merchandising Promotional Project 3. Sports and Entertainment Promotional Plan

The objective of MAP is to increase the employability of the individual in marketing, finance, hospitality and management fields and to develop an awareness of these areas as a career choice. The program is intended to develop a better understanding of the important of entrepreneurship, product and service knowledge, and customer satisfaction. Participants will give a 10 minute presentation at the State and International Career Development Conferences. The presentation should cover five gold level projects. The presentation will be followed by a 5 minute question/answer period.

Each year, DECA District Conferences give students their first opportunity to compete in chosen events and meet other members from their district. Each of the eight Michigan districts holds a one day conference where the top performers in each category earn the right to compete at the Michigan DECA State Career Development Conference (SCDC) held annually, which will be held in Detroit on March 9th - 11th, 2018

The Michigan DECA Guide is our equivalent to the yellow pages, offering all the information a chapter needs throughout the school year on our conferences and competitive events. The DECA Guide is published at the start of the school year, and sent to over 300 Michigan DECA Advisors

Eastern Michigan University

David Wait; Dave has served as the chartered association advisor for Michigan DECA at Eastern Michigan University since 1986 and has been a DECA Certified Trainer since 2012. Prior to 1986, he was a marketing education instructor at the Saginaw Career Complex. As a state director, Dave works to find new ways to connect DECA's programs to marketing curriculum. He has a degree in marketing education from Michigan State University

Michigan Marketing Educators; An organization of educators and business people committed to the career development of youth and adults in the areas of marketing, management, and entrepreneurship. Organization Goals: To unite into one statewide organization, people who are interested in Marketing Education To promote the interests of Marketing Education throughout the State of Michigan

National Advisory Board; Members of the N.A.B companies enhance the classroom instructional program in many ways. These dedicated business people help connect DECA members with real world experiences that ensure they are college and career ready after high school. Members of the N.A.B are involved at the local level by serving as guest speakers in the classroom, judging at district and regional DECA competitions, and welcoming student field trips visiting their work sites

Four Main Objectives of Parliamentary Law: 1. To do one thing at a time 2. Courtesy to everyone 3. The rule of the majority must prevail 4. The rights of the minority must be protected Principles: 1. Only one main motion may be considered at a time. 2. Each member's rights are equal to those of his/her fellow members. 3. The majority has the right to work its will and its decisions must be followed. 4. The minority has the right to be heard. Types of Motions: 1. Main 2. Subsidiary 3. Incidental 4. Privileged 5. Motions that bring a question again before the assembly. Two Types of Amendments: 1. First Order - an amendment to the motion 2. Second Order - an amendment to the Amendment Standard Order of Business: Reading and Approval of the Minutes Reports of Officers, Boards and Standing Committees, Reports of Special Committees, Special Orders, Unfinished Business and General Orders, New Business

DECA's Principles of Business Administration Events measure the student's proficiency in those knowledge and skills identified by career practitioners as common academic and technical content across marketing, finance, hospitality, and business management and administration. The Principles of Business Administration Events are designed for first-year DECA members who are enrolled in introductory-level principles of marketing/business courses - Principles of Hospitality and Tourism - Principles of Finance - Principles of Marketing - Principles of Business Management

State Career Development Conference; The 2018 conference will be held in Downtown Detroit on March 9th - 11th, and it promises to be one of the most exciting, competitive and FUN Michigan DECA events of the year! You will have the opportunity to meet and compete with over 3,600 Michigan DECA members from throughout the state and also meet important and influential business professionals. The SCDC is a time for you to develop your occupational and leadership skills as well as meet other fun and energetic Michigan DECA members

DECA's Individual Series Events effectively measure students' proficiency in the knowledge and skills identified by occupational practitioners as essential to success in a given career. SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry representatives working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA helps each student to excel. SkillsUSA is a national organization serving teachers and high school and college students who are preparing for careers in technical, skilled and service occupations, including health occupations and for further education.
