Three layers of the skin:

1. Epidermis-outer skin. It protects the underlying skin from outside environment mentioned and contain cells that make keratin a substance that waterproof and strengthens the skin. The epidermis has cells that contains melanin, the dark pigment that give the skin it's color. Other cells in the epidermis allows us to feel sensation and touch and provide the body with immunity against foreign I Valders like germ and bacteria 2. Dermis-true skin or inner layer. It cells that give the skin strengh, support, and flexibilty. Aging causes cells to lose there strengh and flexibilty causing the skin to loses its youthful appearance. Located in the Dermis-true are sensory receptors. They allow the body to receive stimulation from the outside environment and experience pressure, pain, and temperature. Small vessels provide the skin with nutritients, and remove it's waste products. 3. Hypodermic- subcutaneous 'fat cells' fatty layer of tissue or adipose tissue, that insulated tell body and help it conserve heat.
