November 1 1989 Reston Virginia, Dan Dalgard received a call telling him that the imported monkeys where dying, he then relized that most of the deaths were in one room, room F, but thinking that it was because of the heat of the room he left it alone.
November 12, 1989 Reston Virginia, Dalgard received another call about more deaths at the monkey house and he decides to dissect the monkey named 053. He removed his spleen and stuck a Q-tip down the
monkey’s throat.
November 13, 1989 Reston Virginia, Dalgard brings the problem to usamrid to try to find the diagnosis he thought the monkeys had sfh (simian hemorrhagic fever) but didn’t know so he sent the samples made by monkey 053.
November 16, 1989 Reston Virginia, The monkeys continually died and on this day the tentative diagnosis of sfh a filo virus was given, it is harmless to humans but lethal to monkeys, Dalgard takes serious efforts to control it.
