August Bier

August Bier was a surgeon who administered the first 6 spinal anesthetics to his patients for surgical procedures in 1898. After they all complained of severe headaches, nausea, etc. He had his lab assistant give him a spinal anesthetic (using cocaine!) and subsequently had his own postdural puncture headache.
