Gun control has changed the way Americans live in today's society and has affected education, communities, and child development. According to the second amendment of the constitution, Americans have the right to bear arms. This amendment was put into the bill of rights because Americans thought it was a basic right. Making this amendment would create big issues in the future, and whenever there is a big issue there is definitely going to be a big debate. There have been numerous amounts of gun violence incidents around the U.S news today as well as in the past like gun violence in the education system(school shootings). School Shootings should not be a thing but they are. The Columbine shooting it one of the more well-known school shootings in the U.S.There were 15 death
...s and 24 fatally injured. The weapons that were used to carry out this crime were a pump-action shotgun, a double-barrelled sawed-off shotgun, a tec-9, and a hi-point carbine rifle. How does a teenager get his hands on that many weapons? This has some people asking should ordinary citizens be able to own guns or shouldn’t there be some kind of strict laws if guns can cause such harm. People do not want to give up their guns or have the government control them with their guns but everybody wants for there to be no gun violence in this world and there is always going to be two sides with their own kind of solutions. Guns and the ability to use them have always been a debatable topic in the United States and many other places throughout the world. There are groups of peopl
that believe that as long as we have the right to bear arms that many unprotected people will lose their lives due to gun violence. Where guns are not legally owned by law-abiding citizens, gun-related violence and crime flourish. Mass shootings have been a big topic in the news in recent years and one of the main factors that cause these incidents is the location that they happen. All over the news, you will see shootings that happen in schools, colleges, and even in movie theatres.
One side of the debate is pro-gun control which are the people who don’t want strict gun policies. These people are called the NRA(National Rifle Association). Gun rights interests have given about $42 million to candidates, parties, and outside spending groups since 1989, with 89 percent of the funds contributed to candidates and parties going to Republicans. The NRA has provided about $23 million of those funds…(West). They say that if there are stricter gun control policies it would be infringing of the second amendment. According to the second amendment, we have a right to bear arms so gun control will not stop gun violence according to studies. Studies show higher rates of gun ownership are not associated with higher rates of violent crime...(Malcolm). Gun control is any law on certain types of guns and accessories. Gun control activists are looking for an all-out ban on “assault” weapons such as an AR-15 and many others like it. Most people who are for gun control know little to nothing about guns or the 2nd amendment. Three in ten American adults (30%) say they personally own a gun, and an additional 11%
say they live with someone who does for protection(Gramlich).
So if someone went through all the trouble to get a gun legally to protect themselves then why would they commit a crime with that same gun. Legally owned firearms are used for lawful purposes much more often than they are used to commit crimes or suicide...(Malcom). So when crimes are committed it's going to be with an illegally obtained gun.
