Fire Safety & Response

A RED light indicates a GENERAL alarm. A YELLOW light indicates a TROUBLE/SUPERVISORY alarm.

Panel displays information through a series of lights that turn on next to descriptions of the alarm location(s), i.e. 2nd floor North wing smoke detector.

Panel is digital and will display alarm location on an LED screen.

Each building has a separate panel with a digital display.

Evacuate the lobby. Only allow entry to official personnel such as UMPD and Fire Rescue as well as HRL personnel.

Acknowledge the alarm: ERC - Press ACKNOWLEDGE and all locations will display. HRC/SRC - Press ALARM ACK and continue pressing ALARM ACK for multiple locations. MRC/PRC - Press ACKNOWLEDGE and FIRE ALARM SCROLL DISPLAY for multiple locations. UV - There is no alarm panel inside the UV Main Office. If a general alarm is reported at a specific UV building, contact UMPD to investigate. If there is a fire in the Main Office, evacuate the area and call 9-911.

Contact the RA-On-Duty closest to the alarm location and inform them of the location and the type of alarm, (i.e. smoke detector, pull box, etc). Contact UMPD to have them send an officer and let them know an RA is investigating. Contact the direct Supervisor and the Unit 4 Supervisor.

Take down the barriers while evacuating the lobby to facilitate evacuation.

If the RA-On-Duty reports a false alarm, silence the audible alarm by pressing: ERC/MRC/PRC - SIGNAL SILENCE HRC/SRC - ALARM SILENCE Allow residents to re-enter. Press SYSTEM RESET ONLY after receiving permission from UMPD and/or Fire Rescue. Document the alarm on the Activity Log, on an Incident Report and on the Fire Alarm Report Log (located on or near the fire panel).

If the RA-On-Duty reports a confirmed fire/alarm, evacuate the entire building: ERC -The entire building is already in alarm. If not, pull the nearest pull box. HRC/SRC - Push the Manual Evacuation button (separate door on panel must be pulled open to reveal it). MRC/PRC - Pull the pull box of the building needing to be evacuated located across the Fire Alarm Panel. Contact 9-911, UMPD, the direct Supervisor, the Unit 4 Supervisor and Eaton Front for: the AD-On-Duty, the Maintenance Manager On-Call, Housekeeping On-Call for Residence Halls as well as maintenance and housekeeping via the Facilities Customer Service Help Desk for general clean up. The SA must give the street address to the 911 dispatcher (memorization is encouraged but not essential - address is on the front of each post binder). Give Fire Rescue, upon their arrival, the Mobility Impaired List (located on or near the Fire Alarm Panel). Document the alarm on the Activity Log, on an Incident Report, and on the Fire Alarm Report Log (located on or near the Fire Alarm Panel).

Acknowledge the alarm ERC - Press ACKNOWLEDGE and all locations will display. HRC/SRC - Press TBL ACK or SUPV ACK (depending on alarm type) and continue pressing for multiple locations. MRC/PRC - Press ACKNOWLEDGE and TROUBLE SCROLL DISPLAY or SUPERVISORY SCROLL DISPLAY (depending on alarm type) for multiple locations. Contact Unit 4 and with their permission, call Eaton Front for the Facilities Customer Service Help Desk for maintenance to check the issue. Document the alarm on the Activity Log, on an Incident Report and on the Fire Alarm Report Log (located on or near the Fire Alarm Panel).

If a General Alarm is triggered on the roof of a residential college, in the basement of a residential college, or in the Telecom 1 (UPS101) room of HRC.

Contact the RA-on-Duty to meet the fire department in the lobby with the duty keys for access to the basement, roof or Telecom1 room.

If the alarm is triggered in the basement, lobby, on the roof or first floor of either building.

o Call Eaton Front so they can report the problem to the Facilities Customer Service Help Desk o Notify the direct Supervisor and the Unit 4 Supervisor o If directed by a Supervisor, call 9-911, UMPD, the RA-On-Duty and the AD-On-Duty as necessary

The affected floor (3), the floor above (4) and below (2), and the lobby area sound an audible alarm when the system is triggered (lights go off on every floor).

Pull the nearest lobby pull box to reactivate the alarm.

Open the black metal cover that reads, \"Pull to open door.\" Push the Manual Evacuation button to retrigger the alarm in the entire building.

Pull the appropriate pull box for the affected building located in the Fire Panel Room (Pull both boxes if the alarm was triggered in the basement, lobby, on the roof or first floor of either building).
