The Amiens Cathedral is can be found at the capital of the Picardy region of France, some 120 km north of Paris. It is said to be the tallest cathedral in France. It is one of the largest 'classic' Gothic churches of the 13th century. It is notable for the coherence of its plan; the beauty of its three-tier interior elevation and the particularly fine display of sculptures on the principal facade and in the south transept.

und 1220 and the nave was completed around 1245. Reconstruction of the choir started began around 1238 and completed before 1269, and the most of this part of the building, including the transept, was completed in 1288.

The south tower was constructed about 1366 and the north tower about 1401. Amiens Cathedral use limestone as a material. is a measure of man and heaven and its construction. The exterior of the cathedral portrays artistic unity because of the three vast deep porches is top with the gallery of twenty-two over life size kings, which stretches across the entire facade beneath the rose window. The Western portals of the cathedral are justly famous for their detailed sculpture, featuring a gallery of locally-important saints and large eschatological scenes. I think, the exterior of the cathedral was constructed with full patience and rtistic knowledge because of the sculptures on it of saints which are very detailed.

In contrast to the elaborately decorated exterior, the interior of Amiens Cathedral is beauty in simplicity - all vertical lines stretching to the tall ceiling in a light and calm space. The floor is tiled in striking black-and-white geometric patterns that echo the labyrinth in the center of the nave. The Cathedral shows new ways of matured Gothic design. The Cathedral shows off many lines that make it look tall and it also has on the floor and ceilings which make it look more detailed.

My attention was captured by the top view and the floor plan of the Cathedral, because it is like a big cross composed of line with a square on the center. It gave the church more heavenly meaning. The hall way, inside from the door to the altar, also gives an ambiance of holiness. The Cathedral was finished by the architectures with a beautiful gothic design that captures ones heart because of the holiness that it portrays, together with the sculpture of saints and God.
