The nursing profession for years on end has been seen as profession primarily for females. In a better way we see that the nursing profession has been seen as a way of extending the women’s nurturing ability and care. In this light we find that most nurses are female. And as per societal dictum being a male nurse is in some places considered as demeaning or unusual. In hindsight, the society lacks to understand that males were at the pivot of the conception of the nursing profession over 2000 years ago (RWJF, 2011).
