- He has a sense of belonging in Maine -the highway changes however he still has the same feelings for maine - Speeding through things is not always best, he likes to look at scenery and enjoy every second na -People should not take things for granted -loves/is defensive of Maine -Misses the 3 minutes he loses on the new highway where he could think a little longer -sense of peace/ belonging in Maine. He is very at peace with nature -hunting season, wreaths and Christmas trees

- Matters of importance bring people together (i.e. his brother visiting the pig) -Fails in raising the pig and his friends look upon him in shame -the death of this one pig is of great significance in his life -Everything living thing you have ever loved is going to die, so enjoy it while it is alive. - Not being able to achieve a long term goal - Gives the pig an enema, which is quite a personal procedure, which shows that he cares about the well-being of the pig quite a bit

-irony because he is relaxed when there is a huge storm coming -It shows that the media tends to make things out to be worse than they actually are -media makes events seem bigger than they are

-even if you don't like technology you still have to adapt - technology is not always sufficient or reliable -newer things aren't necessarily better than old-fashioned things, like his wood stove

-lots of imagery -pollution -snow removal isn't really a thing...? -education

-E. B. White can't take care of animals -Give your all to something and you will feel empowered, for you'll feel regret and sorrow if you give up on something - Seeing how the connection among a family can be rekindled after a disaster

-throughout all of his problems he's in love with nature -there are more problems in the world than one can list

-Disarmament is not the solution to world peace -unity has not been achieved yet -disarmament is impossible because there is no higher power to enforce it -Even when countries disarm, they are preparing for a future war. -at this time in history there is a lot of tension in the United States
