Since the start of the 21st century, drunk driving has developed into a contentious issue. Drunk driving has harmed the lives of many individuals; taken their happiness as well as their families. Numerous families undergo suffering each year due to this deadly act. This speech will focus on problems of drunk driving and why should be everyone’s concern to stop it.
Driving under the influence of alcohol is tremendously hazardous, and several drivers with their blood alcohol level (BAC) high are at a greater risk of accidents. A ca accident is deemed to be associated to alcohol if at least a driver or a non-occupant like a pedal cyclist or a pedestrian involved in the accident is ascertained to have devoured a blood alcohol intensity of at least .01 gram for every deciliter. Therefore, any accident that happens because of alc
...ohol consumption is deemed to be an alcohol-related death. In 2014, more than 1.1 million drivers were arrested for drunk driving, driving under the influence led to 333 deaths and 7,265 injuries and alcohol-related crashes were 10,550. In 2012, a total of 239 children got killed due to drunk driving crashes. During the week, approximately 15% of drivers involved in a fatal accident were drunk unlike in the weekend at 31%. (Drunk Driving Statistics 2013). Accidents that are alcohol related during the night are 4.5 times more compared to the day time.
Science has shown that when individuals start drinking, they become so used to it; some even become addicted to alcohol. A majority of drunk drivers who have been apprehended have essentially driven approximately 80 times before getting caught. A good example of an individual who
drunk driving impacted negatively on his career is Bernard King. Bernard King was a prominent basketball player who recuperated from a knee injury. Although he had a serious drinking problem, he got accepted by the Golden State Warriors, who were prepared to risk his addiction with his capability to perform. His driving while under the influence of alcohol made his teammates worry constantly (Moan 115). On most occasions he was unable to perform his best, thus compromised the team’s chances of succeeding.
Individuals are more likely to reveal some loss of reasoning and relax especially when the blood alcohol level is at .02. However, tests show that at .02 level drivers have a weakening sight, are incapable of watching moving objects, and lack the ability to multitask. At .05 BAC drivers cannot clearly see a moving object, they start experiencing difficulty while driving and losing feeling in certain body parts. At .08 level, drivers experience difficulty concentrating, maintaining a vehicle’s speed, focusing on the road, have blurred speech and cannot hear clearly which is hazardous. Mostly, when an individual is drinking, they start to grow a reduced reaction to time and is likely to be precarious in case an emergency case occurs.
Some individuals consider that the can control a vehicle after having some drinks than when in a sober state. However, they do not realize that most alcohol-related impairments take time before reaching the BAC, a point where the person is considered drunk. For example, weigh and sex difference can influence the point at which a person enters the BAC. For instance, 180-pound man can hit the .08 level faster that a 180-pound man. When a
driver hits the .08 alcohol level are 11 times more likely to cause care accidents than when sober.
Drunk or intoxicated drivers are more prone to distractions. A recent Pew study shows that 47 percent of the adults who text do it while driving. Drinking causes visual impairment and hence cell phones can distract the drunk drivers. Further, drunk drivers may shift their attention from the road and focus on the passengers in the vehicle.
Driving under the influence of alcohol has adversely affected families, for instance, sudden deaths of breadwinners, or any other family member. Drunk driving has reduced over the years, but the number is very high, and it must be stopped.

Author’s Note
The issue of drunk driving is important because it affects many people in all walks of life.it therefore, requires immediate remedy to address it. Am personally connected to the issue because of witnessing serious fatalities occurring which are brought about by drunk driving which are something that can be avoided. Also, increased death rates of innocent people caused by those drivers who decide to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
This particular speech targets the general public. The reason being to create more awareness of drunk driving, to educate people on the dangers and risks of drunk driving as well as issues relating to drunk driving.
Syntactical repetition has been utilized in the speech through repetition of sentences to ensure an emphasis on the center theme is maintained. Use of repetition improves the flow of sentences, by excluding unnecessary words which can distract the audience from the main point. The repletion of the fact that drunk driving was aimed at creating an increased emotional impact on the audience.
The revision process made it easy for me to make significant changes in my final speech. For instance, the partner review was very adequate for me, as my revision partner went through my address and gave recommendations, which I later incorporated in my final speech. As I worked on the speech, I learned that writing is rewriting, and it’s important for one to be open minded to make necessary changes in their writing, thus improve their writing skills. The primary satisfaction derived from this speech is the opportunity to deliver the message to the audience on the dangers of drunk driving. Some aspect I wish to improve is incorporating more data on data drunk driving to show the audience the extent and effects of the issue.
The main goals that I will set for myself for future writing are, ensuring that constant revision is done to be on the right track always and seeking opinions of other like-minded individuals.
