This is a long time for a director to use on such a mundane thing as a puddle, and so I think that this shows what he thinks of the significance of this puddle, especially as this is the first representative of the marvels he has strained over for so long that are yet to come to our screens that this represents.The puddles reflection is now dimmed by the shadow of an object, and the camera now fairly quickly looks up as if from a daze to see what has shattered its interest, and whilst raising up, follows the car which has disturbed it (also in accordance with the audiences preconceived ideas) and then settles on the small hall like residence that the car has pulled up along side, the camera now nine feet above the ground, has now also got three quarters of its/our view shrouded by the dead serpentine fingers of a hawthorn tree, adding a distinct evil aura to the episode.This sky also is now visible for the first time whilst looking at the hall, and is a very very dark navy/gray, and resembles a tropical typhoon sky, this of course is all adding to the looming suspense and negative atmosphere. Next depicted is a much closer view of the hall, and specifically a young girl viewed over the top if the old motorcar, who has been waiting in the rain for the cars arrival, with a pretty but scrunched up face due to the weather, dressed all in dark gray old fashioned water proof clothes.It is

clear that she is the most important item so far, as the driver and luggage move in and out of focus and out of shot, and also the car and hall become out of focus also, this girls face remains crystal clear in the camera, and always central to everything else.The first thing, once out of the car, that the driver does is to make a very derogatory comment in "don't jus stand there, give me a hand with the canopy" which is his job to do anyway, but his statement immediately shows the audience that she is used to this sort of remark, as she does then help him, and starts to acclimatize up the audience to the whole hierarchy of the house which we have witnessed so often in other period dramas.
