During Week One, both the human resource manager and supervisors expressed their confidence in my skills, highlighting my potential value to the company. They stressed the significance of maintaining an efficient database for Airport Connection's limousine service. This database heavily relies on extensive customer service guarantees and proper storage of customer information. To ensure its accuracy, regular updates from collected website data are necessary. In addition, I was introduced to various staff members across different departments. Special introductions were made with the advertising and customer service department managers. The advertising manager oversees the website operations while the customer service manager handles customer information storage and retrieval tasks. Moving into Week Two, I had the opportunity to examine the stored customer information within the database.
The software known as Limo Anywhere enables the management of customer informa
...tion and offers transportation-company specific features such as route mapping and flight tracking. It also includes information about drivers and allows for schedule creation. Additionally, I visited the company's website (www.airportconnection.com) which required updates. I also explored other limousine websites to identify potential features that could be incorporated into their own website.
In Week Three, I dedicated my time to learning the software Limo Anywhere. Fortunately, it was not very difficult for me since it shared similarities with other databases I had used before, like Goldmine. The software was specifically designed for non-IT trained individuals to easily manage and operate. During this week, I primarily focused on inputting passenger information and tracking flight details into the database.
Moving on to Week Four, I was assigned to work at the "webmaster's station" where I discovered that Dreamweaver was employed to develop the company's website
The website included fields that allowed customers to contact the company through email. Moreover, I was tasked with creating a backend storage system for their database. This system would enable customers to input their personal information directly into an Access database. This would serve as a backup and be regularly updated. The company's existing web pages already featured options for customers to create accounts and request quotes.
During Week Five, I focused on enhancing the Start Your Reservation section of the website. This involved creating fields that aligned with the Limo Anywhere software's fields, aiming to collect as much customer information as possible in the first interaction. Our goal was to ensure that once the project was completed, customers would not need to input their information twice. Additionally, I also extracted customer information from phone calls and emails and entered them into the Limo Anywhere database, which was already integrated with the online registration fields.
Week Six involved further efforts to gather customer details from calls and emails, loading them into the database.
During Week Seven, I made several improvements to the website, including rearranging the graphics to enhance readability and adjusting the colors for a more professional appearance. A suggestion I made was to have customers create an account and request quotes on every page of the website instead of just one. To implement this, I added links to the existing pages where customers could provide their information.
Moving on to Week Eight, I started working on an advertising campaign for AirportConnection using Google AdWords. I began by selecting relevant keywords that would trigger the appearance of their webpage in search results when potential customers search for terms
like "limousine," "airport," "transportation," "service," or "Ronald Reagan Airport." This ensured that AirportConnection's ads would appear in the sponsored section alongside unsponsored ads whenever these keywords were entered into the Google search engine. We opted for a pay-per-click model, where payment is only required when a customer actually clicks on the ad, rather than just viewing it.
In Week Nine, I collaborated once again with an accounting representative to further develop the advertising campaign using Google AdWords.
We chose the desired daily budget and set the geographic target location (Northeast U. S. —New York to Virginia) and language (English and Spanish). Additionally, we selected the dates for running the ads.
Week Ten: Most of my time was spent on the Google Adwords Campaign. I created two ads, one for small occasions and one for large groups. I distributed the keywords between the ads to ensure relevance for prospective customers. I also checked the ad's performance and briefed an AirportConnection representative on managing the Adwords account after my internship ended.
Week Eleven: I collaborated with a permanent AirportConnection employee to share knowledge about managing the Google Adwords Account. I also retrieved and reloaded data from the phone and email account into the Limo Anywhere database.
Week Twelve: I conducted a final check of the website to ensure everything was functioning properly.
In addition, I made further progress with the reservation database by assisting in retrieving the details of individuals who had made reservations for the next day. This was done to ensure that they were matched with the appropriate drivers and that schedules were effectively coordinated.
